With attitudes like this, you wonder why crime is out of control and people are being gunned down in the streets while criminals laugh at the system since there is absolutely no consequence to violating the law.
The real truth is that a society can't afford to not lock up their criminals. Each criminal you put in prison is reducing the hundreds and even thousands of crimes that that one criminal would have committed had they been free.
Didn't Komisarjefsky and Hayes have dozens of felony convictions between them? Wouldn't 3 people still be alive today if the state actually put them in prison for all the previous crimes they were convicted of, instead of repeatedly slapping their wrists and releasing them to once again prey on the public?
