NEW BRITAIN - Four NB school board members are scheduled to meet this week with Del Rio, Texas, school administrators, teachers and parents and tour several schools as part of the site visit for the possible hire of Kelt L. Cooper as the city’s next schools superintendent.
In addition to Beloin-Saavedra (Democrat) and James Sanders Sr, (Republican), also going on the site visit are Carlos Pina (Democrat) and Anthony J. Kane, (Republican). Bob Stacy, director of Human Resources for the NB school district, will also be in Texas.
NOTE: NB Herald Staff Writer Robert Storace is also heading to Texas - for a site visit with four NB school board members, interview superintendent Kelt L. Copper of San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District, plus tour special education programs aimed at 3-and-4 year olds and a head start program, etc.
What difference is this going to make when Malloy and his plan to take over the schools. Superintendents will have to answer to a state rep. Teacher will not have to have a Master's Degree and the Superintendents will not have to be certified. So anyone with a BS degree would be able to enter the education system as a teacher, leader.
How about forgetting the liberal politics and simply going ahead with offering the job the best qualified candidate--even if he is a white guy.
Clearly the board already decided that Mr. Cooper is the best candidate, so is some of this opposition not racist for it not being offered to a minority simply because the white guy was determined to be the best qualified of the candidates?
Hey Stacom. Cooper followed the direction of his board - uphold the residency requirement. Guess what. New Britain requires the same from our superintendent.
But New Britain expects the superintendent to violate the law and openly allow criminal illegal aliens to get free education from the morons dumb enough to actually work and pay taxes when they too could be living free off the shrinking minority still dumb enough to work when they too could simply get everything in life free.
How much of the 51 thousand dollar search budget is going toward this visit? Did they leave their visas home? Visas aren't needed to enter Texas are they?
When will we see a detailed accounting of the final cost of filling this position?
This is true. Sharon's unwillingness to come forward regarding the Sherwood situation is the Elephant in the room. She is taking the sweep it under the rug position. She doesn't want to add fuel to the fire by being honest about the claims of what to place? She could end the controversy. I really liked Sharon but this proves her to have very little back bone.
Will The Herald's Staff Reporter Robert Storace's position be in jeapardy if he does't return with enough dirt on Candidate Kelt Cooper of Del Rio, Texas?
We find it interesting that O'Brien and Sherwood come into office and announce we're broke. They then appoint their friends, including Sherwood's wife, Dena Fleno Sherwood of Commonwealth Avenue as Chairman of New Britain Water Commission and then get her authorization to "borrow" $10 million from the Water Department account. Then they start spending the $$$$$$$$$$$ like drunken sailors.
I find Beloin-Saavedra's comments repulsive. It's understandable that department heads and directors are afraid of O'Brien and his enforcer, Sherwood. They're all wusses who are afraid they'll be fired.
Why on the other hand would duly elected BOE members - only Democrats - want to squelch any criticisms of those two jokers? Sherwood bullies his way into an executive session in violation of executive session protocol and O'Brien says nothing. It's a wonder he didn't try to blame Stewart for that. Even the Republicans have shut up on that issue.
How sad, being bullied into submission by two charlatans by two charlatans for purely political reasons.

School board members should feel free to express their opinion and convey information to the people they represent. If this makes the Chairman uncomfortable, she has the option to step down. She should pause a moment and consider if she is causing its' dysfunctional appearance by placing the interests of her political party ahead of the interests of the board, and the people it represents.

Her covering up for Sherwood is what's fueling the controversy.

Calling these radical extremists drunken sailors is insulting to anyone who happens to be a drunken sailor.
