While Jodi Rell held the record for the most popular and beloved governor in all of America, it appears that Danny Boy Malloy just may earn the record for being the most unpopular governor in Connecticut history, at least that is what today's Courant poll indicates:

Good, considering the thrashing he's taking from teachers unions. Voters seem to support his measures to evaluate teachers and make them accountable. (58 responses)

Not so good. To get a tie in a Democratic state isn't great. Malloy has a growing budget deficit, though he promised his tax hikes would close it. Even Democrats are worried about his spending, apparently. (324 responses)

A better solution would be to elect judges every 2 years. It works well throughout the South. This way judges either do their job by holding scum accountable for their violations of the law or we the people replace the judges.
Nothing new here, Dems have been buying judges for decades.
Teachers are to blame, but more specifically teacher unions are really to blame since we have created a system where teachers are guaranteed their jobs for life and can never be fired no matter how terrible they really are.
John Rowland was talking about this on his show the other day. Until we end unionism by force in Connecticut and become a right to work state, employers will continue to look elsewhere in free states to build their businesses--free of communism.
We must “render unto Caesar” what belongs to him but everything does not belong to him! Are you listening Obama? No president or congress or Supreme Court has absolute authority. That belongs to God alone.
I think Dictator Dan acts as if he thinks he is Caesar!

Re the comment above; this comment is a myth said over and over by people who don't know anything about the tenure system. The problem really is that those responsible for the evaluation of teachers do not provide effective supervision in the classroom for the improvement of instruction. Either they don't know how, don't have the time or all of the above. In the end, for may administrators, it's easier to ignore the problem.
Malloy can't punish teachers, their union owns him. This is just another Malloy-Union hoax promoted by the media and designed to fool the public into believing he is tough on unions. In the end, he will give the unions whatever they ask for and more, just as he did with the state employee unions.
Danny Boy is a puppet whose strings are pulled by his owners & handlers--the union bosses. When the union bosses say jump, Danny Boy's only acceptable answer must be to ask how high. That is what happens when you accept their dirty money. They own you like a piece of cattle.

Lawmakers Cave To Unions On School Reform:
There's no question who's calling the shots in the legislature. It's not the legislators. It's the unions.
The unions own our governor and our legislature. They all work for the unions and when told to crap, may only ask their union bosses what color the bosses would like the crap to be.
That is what happens when you pass laws allowing thousands of people to be forced to pay dues to a union against their will and then allow the unions to donate millions of dollars to campaigns of Democrats. You get a governor and a legislature that are the property of the unions--bought and paid for.

What is the truth about the tenure system, and why do the teacher unions value it so? Why also, is it exclusive to the teaching profession?
Why don't we extend tenure to all professions and occupations?
Once you have 5 years on the job, you will be guaranteed your job for the rest of your life and can never be fired no matter what you do or refuse to do and the boss can kiss your rear end if he doesn't like it. He can never fire you no matter what.
Tenure for everyone!

Sir:
Ineffective teachers - even those that are tenured - may be terminated for any number of reasons; the simplest way is if a teacher commits a crime. Any
administrator that is in charge of/responsible for supervising classroom instruction and who does that job thoroughly and keeps meticulous records, has no problem terminating ineffective teachers. If they did do their jobs properly many teachers would never achieve tenure. Administrators may not be able to do their jobs effectively if they are constantly called out of their building to stupid meetings that could be replaced with well written memos.
Any worker in any job where supervision is inadequate after a while may become ineffective. Where does the fault really lie? With the person that is supposed to be watching. Teacher unions love tenure laws because they know that the vast
majority of teachers are seldom supervised. Results a "good ole boys" network is established where administrators are forced to look the other way when teachers are ineffective because there are no records to prove it. And you can't always blame low test scores.
