Sherwood and the Board of Education Fiasco

Rumor has it that Phil Sherwood barged into the BOE Executive session and demanded that you not hire Cooper with Mr. Sherwood claming that "he is a racist!"

It is not a rumor, I have it confirmed from a very good source.

Is this really any different than a certain councilman kicking a door in anger because he didn't get his way?

Kudos to the Four Republicans and two Democrats who voted for this Texan. Kudos to Sharon Beloin Saavedra and Loisa Leal for bucking their party and makng a good choice.

No one enters Executive Sessions. How ignorant was Sherwood? Who do they think that they are? What kind of idiots did we elect who would in time appoint others as ignorant as they are.

Don't Mess With Texas!

This is just the beginning. The people of New Britain thatvoted this radical and his henchmen into office will destroy the BOE.

IOf they think Mr. Cooper is a racist shouldlook into their own dealings. Racisism goes two ways. I have good information that Ayalon planned the wgole thing.

Let the people claiming this to put their facts on the table. Then we the public will kow who the real LIAS are.

Kelt L. Cooper, 47, a former superintendent of the 6,400-student Nogales Unified School District, the director of technical assistance for English-acquisition services of the state department of education. Mr. Cooper testified in federal court on behalf of the state in a 15-year-old battle regarding how the state pays for the education of English-language learners. A federal judge recently ruled for the second time in the case, Flores v. Arizona, that the state hasn't produced legislation that provides adequate funding for the education of English-language learners.

Mr. Cooper said that the state already provides adequate funding for ELLs. He testified in January for Flores v. Arizona that when he was superintendent of the Nogales school district from 2000 to 2005, the district's educators were able to significantly raise the test scores of English-language learners, along with all students, he said. The Nogales school district is at the center of Flores v. Arizona because the plaintiffs came from that school district.

In meeting him at the high school the other night I was really impressed with Mr. Cooper.

This man is at least 6'5" tall and must tip the scales at close to 300 pounds. He played Rugbee in college and officiated the game when he got too old to play. My impression is that he will not shy away from anyone. Especially SHERWOOD.

Maybe Sherwood finally met his match?

I believe the Board of Education is a separate entity from the city and as such is not subject to the whims of the mayor or his henchmen.

Why is this story not covered by the press? It should be covered by all entities. It is revolting piece of news!

We are paying for Sherwood's salary......

Anonymous said...

Who's going to cover it, Reporter Storace from The Sherwood Herald?

Anonymous said...

The lamestream media would only cover such an item if it were a Republican who did something so outrageous. Imagine the news frenzy had this been someone from the Stewart administration acting so revolting?
Journalism is dead in America and nowhere is that more obvious than in New Britain.

" I have good information that Ayalon planned the wgole thing."

The quote above is from one of the anonymous posters on this blog. I have heard the same thing from a Board member that was at the session. Also, Sherwood never got in he was told he couldn't come in by two BOE members.

Sherwood has muzzled City hall and now wants to take his gestapo-like tactics and run the BOE. Fortunately, he has not succeeded yet!

Sherwood thinks that he is immune to the rules re executive sessions. KGB anyone?

It's mostly because the papers owner Mike Schroeder, is a flaming liberal himself!

Kelt Cooper, the choice of the Board of Education (BOE) to lead New Britain schools, rose to the top of the finalist list based on a good educational resume, accomplishments with English Language Learners and extensive experience in diverse districts in Arizona and Texas.

The winnowing process concluded after two days of interviews by advisory committees and the BOE. In a divided vote that stood at 5 to 5 during a tense meeting, Cooper finally got the nod 6 to 4 and may be the schools' chief come July 1 subject to contract negotiations and a critically important site visit to the Texas district of Del Rio where he is superintendent now.

On Wednesday and the day of the decision, however, the process received a disturbing jolt of information about Mr. Cooper that did not turn up during the vetting process.

I found out about it from a retired New Britain music teacher and passionate advocate for education who posted on her Facebook page a disturbing story from the Texas Observer after what must have been a cursory search on the web.

The balanced and thoroughly researched story, written by Melissa Del Bosque, covers Superintendent Cooper's controversial actions to expel students who allegedly were crossing over the Del Rio International Toll Bridge from Ciudad Acuna. The word allegedly is important here because Cooper turned out to be wrong about most of the children nabbed at the border by school employees who passed out warnings. All but a few were legally entitled to an education in his district. Nothing like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly to obstruct the civil rights of immigrant children.

From the Observer story: Del Rio's alleged controversial crackdown on border-crossing students from Mexico.

flaming liberal is probably more like it.

KGB is a good name to comrade Sherwood.

He threatens, demands, and should be arrested.

Sharon; file to complaint to NBPD of his actions.
