NEW BRITAIN MAYOR TIM O'BRIEN'S BUDGET PROPOSAL TO LAY OFF 130 CITY EMPLOYEES.

His Communications Director Phil Sherwood, based on a press release, stated that the Mayor's plan will eliminate some departments altogether.

Some of the Mayor's plans, for the upcoming budget, will be announced during tonight's common council meeting.

There are 135 police officers and 137 firefighters that would not be affected by the planned layoffs in the city of Nw Britain. The Mayor is also “committed to moving forward” in hiring 30 more police officers. After police and fire are taken into consideration, there are 323 city employees, of which 130 could be facing the ax, the Mayor said.

The news media keeps referring to the families that are hurting because there are no jobs. Though this may be somewhat true it is not the only real reason people are hurting. Has anyone seen the quiet inflation that is going by all the paper money the Federal Government is printing, while all the economic gurus tell us there is no inflation.

Food prices are sky high, hardware, medicine, appliances, computers, etc.; we could go on and on, are all higher in price; and it is not JUST gasoline, plastics and housing and renting and college.

No inflation? Just go out shopping and do some price checking and compare to last year or previous years. The country is in such a down spiral that we wonder if anyone in the country can stop it.

Here's an idea. Cut welfare!

130 is just a beginning unless the mayor finds a way to cut spending--something Democrats are philosophically against.

Just remember folks that anything good that is currently happening in the city of New Britain , such as the rebuilding of Beaver Street, the DiLoreto School expansion, and Costco plan on Hartford Road, was put in place by the Stewart administration.

Let's just hope that "The Working Families" Mayor Tim O'Brien doesn't screw that up too like Walmart ?

Another disturbing part of this is how people found out. I heard:

Members of the Council read about it in the paper as did most city workers.

A City Department head heard about it from a NB Herald reporter.

If you are going to talk about OPEN GOVT, then be open....don't just be open when it suits you!!!!

If there is bad news about the fiscal condition of the city of New Britain, then the person who should be telling us the news is the Mayor and not some mouthpiece. Why does the small city of New Britain need the position of a communications director writing "NEWS RELEASES" ?

Phony Phil is the "communications director" - that is not just press releases, he needs to write EVERYTHING the mayor says, and coach the mayor on what to say when he cant read it.....It really is a tough job- you try and teach a box of rocks to talk.

ARE YOU SAYING THAT O'BRIEN IS LIKE DANNY BOY IN HIS INABILITY TO READ OR WRITE?
