THE NEW O'BRIEN BUDGET CUTS!!!

Amazingly, this proposal indicates no reduction to the Police and Fire Departments and adds some $500,000 to the school budget with a total of 130 city workers to be laid off.

Why isn't the Mayor proposing a reduction to the school board and or layoffs there in order to save our taxpayers the much needed services that would be lost if the proposed city workers layoffs occurs?

" Dwight Blint made an excellent point in the Herald on line.
NB BOE says that it costs the taxpayers about $10.5K to take care of one student in the NB Schools. The cost is greater for SPED students, etc.

Between taxes on a small house, two small cars, a water and sewer bill, etc., I pay about $6K in taxes and fees to live in NB. NOT EVEN ENOUGH TO SUPPORT ONE REGULAR ED. student. After grade 5, we sent our kids to parochial schools - our choice.

For taxpayers to support what O'Brien projects as education costs alone would require almost a doubling of my taxes. Sorry, two 70+ year olds on relatively fixed incomes can't do it.

NB doesn't need 165 Police or an equal number of Firefighters for 70K people half of whom contribute nothing to our city's coffers. "

I have not had a chance to review the budget numbers made available last evening; but there is no framework of an actual plan, nor historical numbers. Department heads were not consulted. Employees were ambushed by the morning paper sensational headlines. We'll have to watch and see where this goes, but I'm concerned that this is the same type of play Gov Malloy utilized before giving the unions 4 years of job security and the taxpayers the biggest tax increase in CT history. In the meantime, how many businesses will come here as he continues to scream "Fire" in the theater?

The cops and firemen live out of town because on their high salaries plus all the overtime they can afford to live someplace better than New Britain.

Sherwood gets most of his ideas from Malloy.

I wouldn't even suggest that Sherwood would have original ideas of his own, so you are probably correct.

Malloy has no original ideas, he simply copies Obama. Monkey see monkey do.

Wouldn't you live somewhere better than this hell hole if you could afford it?
