Auditor: New Britain Finances Were In Trouble For Years - Courant.com

As a Taxpayer, why did the Democratic council continue to approve the budget? Why is the present administration spending money that the city does not have to spend?

Once again, The Courant's Don Stacom attacks the Stewart Administration. The Courant long ago ceased to be balanced in its political reporting. Stacom is the worst.

As far back as I can remember, There has never been a Common Council that had anything but a Democratic majority. This most certainly includes the 8 years of the Stewart administration. Yet I don't remember Stewart ever blaming Pawlak or any other Mayor for the City's problems.
In every year of Stewart's tenure, every Council approved every one of his budgets - most notably, the 2003-05 Council of ALL (15) Democrats. Really? Yes, REALLY!
It seems that when O'Brien was elected, the voters chose a mute who uses his, Deputy Chief of Staff/Communications Director/de facto Building Dept. Director, Sherwood to say and explain anything emanating from the Mayor's Office. Sherwood was an Alderman on two Councils during Stewart's tenure. Allegedly, Sherwood is now being paid over $85,000.
Then, the Stamford based auditing firm (Malloy connection) does a $25K auditing job - ordered by the Unions and paid for by NB TAXPAYERS and we are supposed to believe it? This audit was supposed to be a super-duper audit. The City has paid an auditing firm over $100K/year to do that same thing. This whole scenario is nothing more than male bovine excrement. Yes there was a deficit, but over $30Million? Don't believe it.
Also, as a former member of the Police and Fire Pension Fund Board, I say with certainty that this Fund was over 100% financed at the time Stewart left office.

Then taxpayers can assume that the o'Brien administration not only raded the water funds but the retirement funds also.

I agree with all three statements above. especially the raiding of both the water and allegedly the retirement fund.

I would believe a story in the sleaziest tabloid before I believe anything Statcom writes.

His style of dishonest "reporting" is what drove the nation's oldest continuously published newspaper into bankruptcy.
