It all began with young Emanuel Sanchez's resolution with his offering the $150 per apartment annual fee tied together with the Fair Rent commission that included a caveat forcing Landlords not be allowed to make more than 15% profit "because everybody has to live someplace" according to Sanchez . You may recall this vote on his resolution was lost with a 5-4 vote. And the look of dismay upon the President Pro-Tempore's, Michael Trueworthy's, face indicating his displeasure that how could this motion fail?
He was subsequently quoted in a local newspaper that he will find a solution to get this matter back onto the common council's agenda.
With his new introduction Trueworthy was successful in getting the seven votes to get his motion passed with some modifications eliminating the 15% profit issue limit but adding the license fee agreement for the landlords to execute.
I have recently blamed Young Emanuel but Trueworthy must have been the driving force behind Sanchez's efforts from the very beginning. I also indicated that Mayor O'Brien will be only a one term Mayor. I should have referred to Trueworthy would be serving his last term as well.
The City Landlords have promised a law suit and or an injunction which will create an enormous legal defense costs to the cities taxpayers for which the Democrats on the common council could care less since it's not their money since it’s the taxpayers.

When Emmanuel (Manny) Sanchez' name came up as a candidate to replace a retiring alderwoman, all we on the Council were told about him was that he resides on Washington St. Supposedly there was nothing else about him that was significant enough to mention. We also knew that he is the nephew of State Rep., Robert Sanchez. Robert Sanchez had to resign his then position as a Head Start coordinator (violation of Hatch Act) and was made a Fatherhood something or other at HRA.
Ultimately, Manny Sanchez was chosen to fill the Council seat. Nice young man but definitely a rubber stamp Democrat. As such, he was anointed by the Ds to present the ridiculous absentee landlord ordinance, Is anyone surprised?
Since Sanchez doesn't even pay taxes, why would he care how high the taxes may go?
This is what happens when you elect a group of radical extremists that mostly never worked a day in their lives and have made their career living off the taxes paid by others who actually do work hard.
Some of the Lib Dem councilmen and councilwomen don't even pay the taxes they owe!
Time for Stewart, Salvio, Bernacki and Marrocco to come back. Stewart will also bring competent people into the administration and would immediately save over $100,000 by not having to hire a communications director.
This is the administration that named a street after a tax deadbeat. Apparently you are revered if you don't pay your taxes!
Funny how you blame Alderman Sanchez... is he young yes. But stupid? Not a chance. Sure he voted with his party on this issue, but if I were a Representative of the 3rd Ward I would be compelled to do the same. Let us not forget there were a few times where Sanchez voted against his party when Stewart was Mayor. He supported the original Aquinas sale that was shot down by the democrats and even spoke out against them saying that the plan was the best for that neighborhood. While he may toe the party line with this issue, he's far from a rubber stamp. Perhaps you should try having a conversation with him.

HE IS TOTALLY WRONG WITH HIS $150 PER RENTAL UNIT CHARGE AND THE LICENSE FEE AGREMENT WHERE THE OWNERS AGREES TO SUBMIT THEMSLEVES TO THE FAIR RENT COMMISSION AND BE BOXED INTO THEIR MANDATES. I DID TALK WITH MANNY AND HE DOESN'T BELIVE THE TROUBLE HE HAS CAUSED FOR THE CITY'S TAX PAYERS.
Frank:
Why did you bother to talk with Emanuel. He is just pushing the landlords to keep their rents down for the tenants with his introduction of the fair rent commission.
Sanchez couldn't have made his position on this issue clearer. He said he believes that everyone has a "RIGHT" to a place to live simply by being born, and apparently through his actions he believes that others who work hard to earn what they have have a responsibility to provide those places to live for people who don't work or pay taxes. In simpler terms, those of us who work must be forced to provide free housing for those who are too damn lazy to work.
the only thing common about this council is that they are a bunch of dumbbells.
Why was this article Re-posted? Was once not enough?
Hey cry babies - complain about the council all you want. There are more of us than there are of you and cry all you want we will keep winning just like we did Tuesday.
maybe he just wanted to remind all of us that the council is a bunch of anti-American socialists?
As Senator Harry Reid said today, "the voters have overwhelmingly spoken, and they want the rich to pay just a little bit more."
Now it is time for them to shut up and pay their fair share!
