Erin Stewart announced Her Candidacy For Mayor of New Britain.

Smith Photo: Of Erin while serving at a Board of Education Meeting: Citing her love for the city and the need for “new, positive leadership,” Board of Education member Erin Stewart announced today her intention to run for mayor of New Britain. “I love New Britain,” Stewart said. “I believe in this city and its people. I care deeply about our future. I am running for mayor because I am very concerned about the direction in which we are heading. We need a change. We need new, positive leadership. I will bring a fresh vision to City Hall, and I will work across party lines with residents, businesses and property owners to get things done.” Stewart said her priorities as Mayor will be to: • Increase openness to City Hall • Help the Board of Education reduce class sizes • Control excessive spending in City Hall • Spur economic development • Clean up city neighborhoods • Unite New Britain A lifelong resident, Stewart, 26, is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University. She is one of the youngest elected officials in New Britain and one of the city’s highest vote getters. “I think voters have appreciated that I talk to them straight - they respect that,” Stewart said. “And I also believe my age is an asset. I listen to people. I hear their concerns and I build coalitions to take actions to address those concerns. Our city is a great city, but we can do better. As mayor, I will be a voice for unity." Stewart said she would focus on bringing together students, high-tech companies, retailers, social service providers and artists. “Everyone should have a seat at the table in crafting New Britain’s future,” Stewart said. “Everyone’s voice should be heard. “Together, we can build a new and better future.” Stewart said she is looking forward to knocking on doors and calling on parents, students, homeowners and community leaders to discuss her vision for the city and hear their thoughts and ideas. “I am dedicated to New Britain – my heart is here,” Stewart said. “I have always put people before politics.” Prior to her election to the Board of Education, Stewart served as vice chairperson of New Britain’s Commission on Community and Neighborhood Development and head of its planning and budgeting sub-committee. In addition, she was a member of the Commission on New Britain Youth and Family Services. In 2007, she received the greater New Britain YWCA’s Women in Leadership award for her hard work and dedication to the CT Breast Health Initiative. Stewart is also a former volunteer project director and co-founder of New Britain High School’s “Youth Who Care” initiative for the CT Race in the Park. She is a former coach of the NBHS Lady Canes junior varsity softball team and she currently advises the NBHS Marching Band Majorettes. She attended New Britain public schools. Stewart’s family belongs to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

First off Erin has more brains in her pinky finger then O'Brien has in his whole body.
Secondly, people hate O'Brien so badly a dog could beat him.
Thirdly, the Dems are so confident they don't even realize they are about to lose.
And lastly, Erin Stewart is no fill-in off the bench. She is the real deal and an all-star!
There is no one in the Dem party that can compete.
November can't come soon enough!

"God help us!" Yes, he finally has! He gave a smart young woman the courage to step forward for her city and it's people. Thank you God.

I think the "God help us" comment was a liberal Democrat acknowledging that they haven't a snow ball's chance is he11 of winning with the clown they are putting up for re-election.

Erin just moved out of her parents home and has never had to support herself? Why do the republicans think she can run the city when she hasn't even had the experience of supporting herself?

Would that more children might have loving and supportive parents in their lives. Good for Erin and Hooray for New Britain.

Isn't all this talk about Erin's brightness a stretch? I mean like ah, How come she dropped out of UCONN and had to finish at CCSU? Just wondering?

Sure, she is smarter than O'Brien. Everyone is!

OMG! I cannot believe the stupid crap these dummies are starting off with.

First off Greg G. lived in Mommy and Daddy's pool house IN BERLIN while sitting on the NB council.

O'Brien used addresses of friends to substantiate a seat in the 24th district and we cannot even verify he ever held a public sector job that would even begin to support himself.

Is this the best you can do?

Erin absolutely has what it takes to lead our city back from the brink.

Being in her 20's is a great advantage, she can motivate the young voters to get involved as well as the retired residents who desprately want to see a fresh start. The current administration is a mix of out-of-towners with an extreme political philosophy that has hurt our city.

Erin, get your team together and go out there and talk with the residents, they'll need to hear your ideas because they be given a ton of propaganda from the extreme liberal Democrats who are ruining our once proud city.

How do you know that she can not support herself? Do you manage her income and expenses?

Wait a minute here, someone "bashed Erin because she went to UCONN and CCSU, Thats laughable when O'Brien is a high school drop out with a GED and only several months at central. Please !!! Please and as far as work goes she takes on several jobs at once whereas O'Brien couldnt even handle being a bag boy at Stop & Shop in his 20's. Bring it on dem's !!!! Bring it on

Must be that liberals believe so deeply in the entitlement society that they believe no one is capable of surviving without freeloading off those of us who actually do work and pay taxes.

Lib Dems asking for God's help?

It's about time!

No group needs it more than them.

If you read the question clearly which you did not do, was "why did Erin drop out of UCONN?" The right answer was not to bash the questioner as stupid but to explain that she partied her way out of UCONN and had to finish at CCSU.

If you are going to brag about the several jobs she has taken on at the same time, please explain what they were and how much time and committment did she put into these endeavors.

Old people vote! They study the candidates Young people voted for Obama. Look what that got us!

When people are worried they make fun of the opposition. O'Brainless must be shaking.
Go Erin!

" Erin,
Newsflash...Mark Berkaki and Jim Wysciewzc all were high voter getters when they ran for Council...didn't carry over when they ran for mayor.

Big amateur mistake to assume you will carry over votes.

come to think of it, Paul Catanzaro was a high vote getter one year as well.

Case closed "

Sounds like you are implying that he kept putting the potatoes on top of the bread and eggs?

Erin can't win. This really shouldn't be up to debate at this point.

Worth pondering though is why did she run? I ask the question with the assumption that she wants to have a political career rather than be a flash in a pan. If I'm right, does that mean Erin think by running for mayor, and losing, raises her stock and credibility in the future? Look at what happened to her father after losing the special and election and nearly losing in 09 to candidate that ran an awful campaign.

What makes me angry is that O'Brien will get back in again because we are not putting up a strong candidate. Erin has zero background in administration or managerial work. She has never had to manage people. She has no background in finances.

If people didn't back an excellent candidate, as Mark Bernacki was, why would they back an inexperienced 26 year old?

It is not too late. Please, we need a strong candidate, even an Independent!

DOESN'T MS. STEWART HAVE SLIGHTLY MORE CREDENTIALS THAN A GROCERY BAGGER WHO ONLY ATTENDED ONE SEMESTER AT CCSU?

O'Brien's record in the mentioned by the commenter above: Unless you count bagging groceries as administrative or managerial experience; failure in managing people especially the felonious antics of his former legislative aide or balancing a checkbook as financial experience, what has O'Brien done in these areas? You'll have to do better than! Who asked you to comment? Sherwood?

Stop making excuses for O'brien by putting down Erin.....Erin is five times the person of Shebrien...she will have good people around I believe and not a knucklehead like Phil....we need young blood...if you can't handle that too bad...

Anonymous said...

Young blood elected Obama. Making insulting comments hurts your argument. Because Erin is better than O'Brien dos not make her the best possible candidate. Anyone is better than O'Brien. Anyone.

Facts and the expression "putting down" are not the same.

Wise up.

Anyone would be a better candidate than what we have now, a mayor who frequently reminds me of Foghorn Leghorn, the cartoon character that was a big obnoxious white chicken with a penchant for mischief.

Everyone is commenting about Erins afe. People are forgetting history.

The citizens of Torrington elected a young man of 21 to be Mayor.

New Britain will be set on its heals in November.

I support Erin 100% and people that know meknow that I appreciate someone that takes no s--- from anybody. And that character is ERIN.

The Sherwood/O'Brien administration, for 19 months, has treated New Britain taxpayers like serfs and chattel. While I agree that we should not engage in a tit for tat campaign, O'Brien's record speaks for itself. It's OK to attack him on any front. O'Brien is an abject failure as a mayor.

WHAT RECORD?

I'd be surprised if Timmy Boy even had a record of being a good grocery bag boy.
