Common Council memebrs who voted for the Mayor's Budget participated in the Lie

Often, politicians are referred to in pejorative or disparaging terms; some, especially those making the assertions say, that this type of name calling is deserved. How do you feel? If a politician tells you publicly that they aren’t going to do something and then they openly do it, are you justified in calling the politician a liar? For example, Mayor O’Brien has said publicly at Common Council meetings and has been quoted in a local newspaper that he will not raise taxes on New Britain taxpayers; last week, I received my notices from the City for taxes on my automobiles and my house. Taxes on my autos increased while those on my house decreased slightly. Along with my tax bills, was a personal flyer from the Mayor saying again that taxpayers would not have their taxes raised. Now, if I say that the Mayor lied to me, am I being unreasonable if I use the term liar to describe him? I think, not!

Now, how could my auto taxes go up while my house taxes decrease especially, since autos decrease in value every year? Easy. The City devalued my house by very close to 30% and raised the mil rate 7.49 mils. What’s worse, telling me that my house is worth close to $35 thousand less than it was last year - even though I’ve made improvements - or raising my taxes after lying to me that you wouldn’t raise them? How about it, Mayor O’Brien. By the way Mr. O’Brien,- I won’t call you Mayor any more - Auto insurance on my year older autos and Homeowners’ insurance on my “devalued house” both increased!

Finally, to the Common Council members; 13 of the 15 of you voted to approve the Mayor’s Proposed Budget, ergo, you participated in the lie!

They know that raising taxes is what ended Lucien's career as mayor, so they lie to everyone proclaiming that they did not raise taxes. The Democrats apparently believe that if they tell you the lie enough, people will begin to believe that they actually did not raise taxes and will vote to re-elect the same Democrats who have forced through such huge tax increases that New Britain now has the second highest taxes in all of Connecticut--second only to Hartford. Give these Democrats another term and maybe by the end of another 2 year term you will be able to brag to the entire state about having the highest taxes in all of Connecticut!

Lou, it's worse than just lying - it's corruption. Nick Mercier was giving very accurate critiques of the "budget" and putting it all into terms a 4 year old can understand. That these "representatives" went along with this deficit spending fiasco is beyond lying or incompetence - it's willful betrayal of their constituencies.

We really need to clean house in November.

The only problem is that the majority of the voters don't work or pay any taxes. They live totally free off of the minority of people who do work, and so they vote for these socialists to keep their totally free ride rolling along and those of you who do own property, work and pay taxes have to keep paying more and more and more and more for the free ride of freeloading Democrats.
