McKinney To Appear At Fundraiser For Erin Stewart - Courant.com

I guess Erin doesn't want any of the NRA vote, or she wouldn't be aligning herself with gun grabbing McKinney. I am a Republican, and if McKinney ends up with the nomination for Governor, I would vote for Malloy--sometimes you are better off with the devil you know instead of another liberal R.I.N.O. calling himself a Republican while pushing a liberal extremist agenda.

Anonymous said...

Malloy is a disaster but it is more important to send a message. McKinney voted against our rights and punished CT's gun owners for the Newtown tragedy. My friends and I will vote against McKinney at every level including voting democrat in the general. If the GOP wants to win, give Foley another shot.

Anonymous said...

Under no circumstances will I ever vote for John McKinney. This SB 1160 bill is the worst thing in memory. It harasses law abiding owners and does nothing to solve the real problems.

FranK:

After reading these first three posts, it's clear that Sherwood is not gone from City Hall ; maybe it's his ghost or the quietly appointed Executive aide that lives in Berlin but is grabbing NB taxpayer monies.

O'Brien's campaign contributions list is a "who's who" in out of town donors, PR firms and erstwhile do nothing State Reps. like Dave Pudlin to whom O'Brien gives $hundreds of thousands of NB taxpayer money.

Anybody that chooses for whom they would vote for Mayor of NB based on who is invited to a fundraiser - even if the person happens to be the state chair of the R party - is not worth a damn.

The first three commenters are one in the same person.

O'Brien has 15 people running with him for Common Council, 15 reasons why, after seeing for over ten years what these sycophants/people have done TO NB why O'Brien should be sent back to Manchester, tarred and feathered.

Anonymous said...

I hate to say it, but I also have lost all respect for McKinney. I think Erin Stewart might want to find better star power to help her. McKinney is not the best choice now a days. I hope she realizes this soon if she wants to win come Nov.

Anonymous said...

Hey Erin, You might want to take a hint from these comments. They all look like they are from R's ( your voting base), and this might hurt you as the election goes on.

Anonymous said...

Running for mayor in NB has absolutely nothing to do with gun rights or the NRA. You can dislike McKinney for his votes on gun rights at the capitol but remember one thing, he represents all of those families that were affected by this horrible tragedy. Try telling them that you cannot help them heal in the wake of their loss. Easy to monday morning quarterback here but put yourself in them shoes! And by the way in case you didn't know the dems had the votes to pass the legislation anyways!

Anonymous said...

Its not so much the vote that hurts, he does represent that cornor of the state. It was the fact that he was behind the E-Cert, and taking away the voice of all people in Ct. It was very poorly written, and forced in to law before it could be looked at and reviewed to see if it would hurt or help make the state a safer place. And it hurts the safety of all. So to #6, its not the vote, its the fact he forced in to law a bad law, that didnt help or answer the needs of school safety.Heck the 3 committeeies didnt even finish before the law was voted on ! Not even a police report to review, how can you give an answer to a question without hearing the question ! And lastly that issue of 2A is very much a local one as it is federal. NB city ord 1060 was just changed last year, so you are incorrect in that as well.

Anonymous said...

She works in his office. Just because someone comes to be a guest at a fundaiser doesn't mean the candidate supports all of their ideals. Get a life people. Or don't come to the event.

Anonymous said...

So because the Dems can do whatever they want, if you are a true conservative, you should simply sell you sole to the Dems by pandering to the left and supporting a horrible piece of legislation that would do nothing to stop a similar tragedy in the future and simply makes liberals feel good by making otherwise law abiding citizens into criminals by trampling on their 2nd amendment as well as their article 1, section 15 rights of the Connecticut Constitution? This makes you a hypocrite in the most extreme sense to call yourself a Republican and then support such a liberal extremist agenda! I agree, at least you know what you are getting with Malloy. I would rather vote for a candidate that tells you he is a liberal extremist over one who lies to you and pretends to be a conservative.

Following your logic, the 2 Repubs on the council should simply lie down and vote for everything the 13 moron Dems want to do, because they don't have the votes to stop them, so they should simply vote yes on every single vote!

As far as stricter gun laws without McKinney’s help: I kinda doubt they could have got much worse to pass if the Republicans had held firm to their oath of office as well as the party platform. If anything, they were emboldened to go further by the bi-partisan support. McKinney and Cafero and the others completely went against what every Republican is supposed to stand for (see GOP platform below). The Republican base would have had more respect for them if they had stood firm. Besides, the worse the ban would have been, the easier it would have been to overturn in federal court; and it WILL eventually be overturned.

GOP Party Platform:

The Second Amendment: Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms:

We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment. We acknowledge, support, and defend the law-abiding citizen’s God-given right of self-defense. We call for the protection of such fundamental individual rights recognized in the Supreme Court’s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago affirming that right, and we recognize the individual responsibility to safely use and store firearms. This also includes the right to obtain and store ammunition without registration. We support the fundamental right to self-defense wherever a law-abiding citizen has a legal right to be, and we support federal legislation that would expand the exercise of that right by allowing those with state-issued carry permits to carry firearms in any state that issues such permits to its own residents. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend their homes and communities. We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners. We oppose legislation that is intended to restrict our Second Amendment rights by limiting the capacity of clips or magazines or otherwise restoring the ill-considered Clinton gun ban. We condemn the reckless actions associated with the operation known as “Fast and Furious,” conducted by the Department of Justice, which resulted in the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and others on both sides of the border. We applaud the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in holding the current Administration’s Attorney General in contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with their investigation into that debacle. We oppose the improper collection of firearms sales information in the four southern border states, which was imposed without congressional authority.

Let's be realistic here.

Would McKinney's vote on the gun law affect whether or not I vote for him in the GOP primary? Quite possibly. Depends on the field of candidates.

Would McKinney's vote on the gun law affect whether or not I vote for him against Dan Malloy in the general election? Absolutely not.

For those of you who are a little slow in the uptake, the NRA was created to help blacks arm themselves against Democrats, so any anti-gun vote can be considered to be a racist move against blacks and therefore anyone who supports gun control can be considered to be furthering over 200 years of Democrat racism since gun control laws were meant to disarm blacks and make them easy prey for racist Democrats:

Sorry Libs… The NRA Was There to Help Blacks Defend Themselves From KKK Democrats, Not the Other Way Around:

On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find.

Which brings us to today…
Asshat Jason Whitlock, the Kansas City columnist whose article on Jovan Belcher‘s murder-suicide inspired an anti-gun rant by NBC’s Bob Costas, now says that the pro-Second Amendment National Rifle Association is “the new KKK,” Newsbusters’ Tim Graham reported Monday.

Obviously, Whitlock is as ignorant as he is offensive.
The NRA actually helped blacks defend themselves from violent KKK Democrats in the south, not the other way around.
Ann Coulter wrote about the history of blacks and the NRA back in April.

This will give you an idea of how gun control laws worked. Following the firebombing of his house in 1956, Dr. Martin Luther King, who was, among other things, a Christian minister, applied for a gun permit, but the Alabama authorities found him unsuitable. A decade later, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.

How’s that “may issue” gun permit policy working for you?

The NRA opposed these discretionary gun permit laws and proceeded to grant NRA charters to blacks who sought to defend themselves from Klan violence — including the great civil rights hero Robert F. Williams.

A World War II Marine veteran, Williams returned home to Monroe, N.C., to find the Klan riding high — beating, lynching and murdering blacks at will. No one would join the NAACP for fear of Klan reprisals. Williams became president of the local chapter and increased membership from six to more than 200.

But it was not until he got a charter from the NRA in 1957 and founded the Black Armed Guard that the Klan got their comeuppance in Monroe.

Williams’ repeated thwarting of violent Klan attacks is described in his stirring book, “Negroes With Guns.” In one crucial battle, the Klan sieged the home of a black physician and his wife, but Williams and his Black Armed Guard stood sentry and repelled the larger, cowardly force. And that was the end of it.

As the Klan found out, it’s not so much fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.

The NRA’s proud history of fighting the Klan has been airbrushed out of the record by those who were complicit with the KKK, Jim Crow and racial terror, to wit: the Democrats.

Historical Fact: Behind every KKK hooded robe is a Registered Democrat.

It is appearing that Malloy is emerging as the pro-gun candidate in this election, at least as compared to anti-gun McKinney:

The slaughter of 26 innocents at the Sandy Hook School has not caused Democratic and Working Families Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to shed his expensive addiction to corporate welfare. Last week, Malloy's administration announced that it will provide at least $22 million to Bass Pro Shops for a 150,000-square-foot store in Bridgeport.

Bass Pro is one of the nation's most prominent purveyors of guns.

McKinney lives in his own little dreamworld where gun owners don’t mind the new gun control laws that he helped write (those same laws that CCDL and other gun rights groups are working hard to overturn), and we don’t vote.

If you are a registered Republican, contact the CT state GOP chairman. Contact your 2 State Central Committee reps. Tell them gun owners are not happy with McKinney. Tell them if there is a primary we will vote for his opponent. If he still wins the primary or there is no primary, we will not vote for him in the election.
Tell them we want a governor who will uphold our rights and the State Constitution.
Tell them we want them to put forward a candidate who will uphold the party platform.

Remember, last election Republican Tom Foley lost to Malloy by only 5,637 votes. There are over 8500 CCDL members, 200,000 people with a carry permit, and upwards of 500,000 gun owners total in this state. If the CTGOP wants 4 more years of Malloy, go ahead and put up McKinney because gun owners would rather keep Malloy in office than reward McKinney.
We’re that mad.

To all you Mckinney bashers, look in the mirror, and you will see a face that hasnt done enough. Have you been to the LOB to speak with him? Or write him letters? Or help/join the protest at the Prescott-Bush dinner where he recieved a GOP award? I know you werent at the protest. I was there. I am running for Alderman on the *R* ticket. But I agree that using Mckinney as a big name is potentially dangerous. And Erin doesnt work in his office, but as an aide to a state Senator, he is her boss. I've marched with Mckinney must go signs, I have 6 more of them. Where are yours?
With respect, leave Erin alone on this one. She is running for mayor, and if you look at the *position* that Mckinney has in office, his presence makes perfect sense. We just dont like him personally. As an executive member of the states largest gun rights group, I will be doing everything in my power to make sure he never gets elected to another state position again. But taking support away from Erin over this is nuts. Do you really want Obrien to stay in office? Give Erin a chance.

Should Republican John McKinney win his party's nomination to challenge the first-term Democrat, a founding member of a key Second Amendment group said Tuesday he would have no choice but to support Malloy in 2014.

He criticized McKinney, the GOP's lead negotiator on a package of gun control measures adopted by Connecticut in response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, for selling out.

"It's better the devil you know," said Lenny Benedetto, vice president of the 9,000-member Connecticut Citizens Defense League. "If we're going to have a Democrat up there, we might as well have a D in front of their name instead of an R."

Folks, this is how the liberals get us again, again and again - divide us and then conquer us.

Liberals don't agree with each other all the time either, but a liberal would never vote for a Republican just to make a point.

As the old saying goes, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

No matter how you slice it, McKinney is still a better choice than Malloy on every other issue.

Anonymous said...

The way I see it, McKinney is much much worse than Malloy because to say he is a Republican while outright defying the party platform is nothing more than a lie. At least Malloy tells the truth about who he is while I see McKinney as absolutely nothing more than a Democrat posing as a Republican and I have no respect for any Republican that would publicly support this clown because that Republican is abandoning our party principles by standing next to him.

Anonymous said...

If you don't want to divide the party, then I suggest you run candidates who stand by Republican principles and don't pander to the left.

And now, the owner of this blog not having had enough has added yet another post by supposed McKinney haters for the real purpose of hurting the NB GOP Mayoral candidate

So sad!

It the local Republican Party does not want to be hurt as the last post suggests, then they shouldn't be standing with people who by their own actions don't support the core Republican values as stated in the party platform while all the time claiming to be a Republican!

How dumb can you be, this post and its comments shows that Erin needs to get away from Mckinney. No one is making her use him to campaign. If her team can not see that, TOO BAD. You have people saying that they dont like him, thats feedback that should be noted, if you want to get elected. I think its honest, and true. And one last thing McKinney is going to be in a primary that he will lose so I will still be voting out Malloy, just not to be voting McKinney.

To everyone complaining, when was the last time you donated money or time to a Republican candidate or to the party. Not many real conservatives run in this state because they feel they won't get the support they need to win. So until you all start putting your money, time and votes where your mouth is, you’re gonna keep getting Republican candidates (unless they self-fund) who feel they need to pander to the left for votes and money.

If there is this rising tea party revolution in New Britain, why did Lisa Wilson-Foley, a pro-abortion candidate achieve the highest number of votes in NB in the primary for the 5th CD seat last year?

Why did Justin Bernier, arguably the most liberal of the three 2010 candidates win New Britain that year?

Because all five of you tea partiers that are posting here are full of shit that's why.

Anonymous said...

First off, Lisa Wilson-Foley (liberal)only "won" NB by a handfull of votes, and in the same year Justin Bernier came in dead last out of 4 candidates on the ballot. And why is that, Erin and Tim Stewart were working for her that year. I think thats telling.

And 2nd, No one is making Erin pal around with McKinney, she is doing it on her own, also very telling.

"If there is this rising tea party revolution in New Britain."

Nobody suggests there is a tea party revolution anywhere as far as I have read. I am not in any way affiliated with the Tea party, but am however a Republican who subscribes to Republican values. That must be scary in a town like New Britain, someone who actually stands by his values and principles. McKinney simply defied the REPUBLICAN PLATFORM and therefore is not a viable candidate as far as I am concerned.

The only answer I can offer you about your questions that were specifically related to New Britain election results is to suggest that perhaps New Britain is possibly so extremely socialist as a city that maybe even many of the Republicans are possibly socialist or at least socialist leaning?

Let us remember that Tom Foley won the state primary by a huge margin and if it were not for the election day shenanigans in Bridgeport or the votes received by the extremely conservative Tom Marsh, Tom Foley would be Governor today. Whether or not he won in socialist New Britain really doesn't matter much in the race for governor, now does it, but if you manage to somehow make McKinney the candidate, I can predict you will give the conservative candidate on Tom Marsh's line on the ballot tens of thousands of extra votes instead of the 17,000 that Tom Marsh received because I believe that no real conservative is likely to vote for McKinney.

I will even go one further and suggest that the Democrats truly want McKinney to be your candidate so that you will be handing Malloy another 4 years on a silver platter!

Somehow people who believe in the right to bear arms are being called "tea partiers" when it is one of the founding principles of the Republican Party. Your own party stands for "no gun licensing of any kind," "no restricting of access to or registration of ammunition," the right to carry firearms without restriction anywhere in America you are allowed to legally go," and if you are calling yourself a Republican, then you are signing on to support these principles as shown below:

Republican Party on Gun Control
Party Platform:

Right to obtain and store ammunition without registration
We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment. We acknowledge, support, and defend the law-abiding citizen's God-given right of self-defense. We call for the protection of such fundamental individual rights recognized in the Supreme Court's decisions in District of Columbia v.

Open more public land to hunting
Republicans strongly support an individual right to own guns, which is explicitly protected by the Constitution’s Second Amendment. Our Party honors the great American tradition of hunting and we applaud efforts by the Bush Administration to make more public lands available to hunters, to increase access to hunting clinics and safety programs for children and adults, and to improve opportunities for hunting for Americans with disabilities.

No frivolous gun lawsuits, no gun licensing:
We believe the 2nd Amendment and all the rights guaranteed by it should enable law-abiding citizens throughout the country to own firearms in their homes for self-defense. We applaud those seeking to stop frivolous lawsuits against firearms manufacturers which is a transparent attempt to deprive citizens of their 2nd Amendment rights. We oppose federal licensing of lawabiding gun owners & national gun registration as a violation of the 2nd Amendment and an invasion of privacy of honest citizens.

Will protect right to bear arms
We defend the constitutional right to bear arms. We oppose federal licensing of law-abiding gun owners and national gun registration as a violation of the Second Amendment and an invasion of privacy of honest citizens. Through programs like Project Exile, we will hold criminals individually accountable for their actions by strong enforcement of federal and state firearm laws, especially when guns are used in violent or drug-related crimes.

Thank you Frank for bringing this to the public's attention. I was going to support Erin and had planned on sending in a donation to her campaign. I am sorry to say that as a result of learning about this event I can not support her because I can not bring myself to support any candidate for any office that would apparently idolize a gun banner like McKinney to the point that they would invite him to be their guest of honor at a fundraising event. We all have choices to make and I will choose to send my campaign donations to candidates who stand for supporting the Constitutions of the state and the nation--both of which protect a citizen's right to bear arms. I believe enough Republicans share my views that McKinney will be unlikely to win a primary and therefore is very unlikely to be the endorsed candidate for governor, but either way I will not support him because I believe he screwed over 200,000 law abiding citizens with his liberal gun banning legislation that has no chance of protecting anyone and does more harm than good by making criminals out of law abiding citizens.

GUN RIGHTS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A LOCAL ELECTION

I'm a gun owner and I don't care about SB 1160 because I have other things to worry about than circle jerking around about guns.

WHEN MCKINNEY'S STORM TROOPERS ARE BASHING IN YOUR FRONT DOOR TO SEIZE YOUR GUNS THEN MAYBE YOU WILL WISH YOU CARED....when they came for the Jews I didn't care because I was not Jewish.

To say that John McKinney is disliked by many shows your lack of intelligence. He is disliked by narrow minded idiots that can only view the world from their narrow perspective. Come out of the house a bit the world is a much bigger place than you might think! If you don't like him then don't vote for him period. But because he is coming to a fundraiser that makes erin anti-gun. Quite a stretch even for your types!

Those of you who are focusing on our party or our firearms are missing the broader point.

It's not about our Republican Party or our second amendment rights; it's about our Constitutions as a whole, both state and federal.

Scores of men and women sacrificed their lives to defend these documents. We dishonor their memory when we allow our dishonest representatives to violate the oath they freely took to uphold and defend these documents.

When they pick and choose which parts of our constitution they will up hold and which parts they will violate, and we stand by and ignore their actions, for the sake of winning an election, then we are just as guilty as they are.

We might as well lower our heads in shame and all join Democratic Party, because that's what we'll have become, LIB DEMS!

4:07 PM, your invocation of JEWS to a political debate notwithstanding, gun laws are still irrelevant in a local election.

Can someone please explain why "gun laws" are not relivent to a local election. All Laws are relivent localy, and if you think not, you are mistaken. And thank God whoever said that isnt running for office, Or I would hope that they are not.

FOR THE IGNORAMUSES IN NEW BRITAIN, I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO DRAW PICTURES.

IN RESPONSE TO THE IGNORANT PERSON WHO SAID HE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT A CANDIDATE WHO STANDS FOR BANNING GUNS BECAUSE HE HAS MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES TO WORRY ABOUT, MY REPLY WAS THAT WHEN MCKINNEY'S STORM TROOPERS WERE SMASHING IN HIS FRONT DOOR TO SEIZE HIS GUNS, HE WOULD REGRET NOT CARING ABOUT VOTING FOR SOMEONE WHO WOULD PASS NAZI STYLE GUN BANNING LEGISLATION. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH JEWS, THE ENTIRE QUOTATION IS PASTED BELOW FOR YOU LIBERALS WHO OBVIOUSLY WERE SCHOOLED IN INFERIOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WERE APPARENTLY INDOCTRINATED BY RADICAL UNION TEACHERS TO EMBRACE SOCIALISM AS BEING A GOOD THING:

First they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

MAYBE WHEN THE TANKS ARE ROLLING UP YOUR STREET, YOU'LL FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THIS QUOTE!

To say don't judge Erin for standing with McKinney is like saying don't judge O'Brien for embracing Bertha Lewis in front of city hall. Where's the difference?

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT YOUR CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR MUST FEEL THAT WAY, OTHERWISE WHY WOULD SHE STAND WITH A MAN WHO WOULD BAN YOUR GUNS JUST FOR THE SAKE OF RAKING IN A FEW DOLLARS TO HER CAMPAIGN?

The Connecticut Republican Party will maintain its minority status as long as it continues to distance itself from the National Platform.

Minority status is preferred by many of our representing as they use it as an excuse for not effectively representing our interests, thus making their jobs easier.

John McKinney can't be trusted. Anyone who believes McKinney will enhance her campaign prospects is a sap.

That in itself disqualifies any Republican running for public office. It's too bad.

If only McKinney had the backbone to stand for something, he and the CT GOP would be riding a political juggernaut this summer. But alas, the only strategist of note advising the Republicans is Linda McMahon. That's the lady who ran with Barack Obama last November. Her strategy might have worked except for a man named Chris Murphy.

There ain't enough smart pills to go around for the Republicans in 2013 and 2014. Voter abuse is a team sport. The Dems and Pubs are tag-teaming those of us who want to save the state of Connecticut.

When will the Republicans get out of our way?

Anonymous said...

Palin if you have a case of those smart pills you can spare, ship them to Stanley Street tonight because our local Repubs sure do seem to need as many of them as they can get. Only thing, don't use a union shipping service as rumor has it there will be a picket line to cross in order to get in!

Can the local Republican Party be so slow in the uptake that they really still dont' get it?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Mr. Palin Smith? Why don't we challenge him to start a "DUMP MCKINNEY" movement similar to how his group rid us of that other political disgrace named Dodd.

Oh boy, now we're invoking the NAZIS.

Anonymous said...

Didn't the Nazis ban guns just like McKinney? And now the local Repubs are kissing up to him, so what does that make them?

The meeting on school security at New Britain High School started at 6PM tonight, so I wonder is the school board member in attendance at such an important meeting regarding the safety and well being of our children, or was getting $50 meal tickets for people who want to worship McKinney more of a priority than learning how to keep school children safe?

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)-- State officials and educators gathered in New Britain Thursday night, to talk about ways to keep children as safe as possible at school.

News 8's Noelle Gardner was at New Britain High School when the meeting was getting underway.

"A state-level panel charged with developing new standards for school safety and security in schools constructed in Connecticut met Thursday night at New Britain High School to discuss these questions." http://newbritainherald.com/articles/2013/08/09/news/doc520451398e25e386020161.txt

A state level panel means not the local board of education, LOL nice try.

A state level panel means not the local board of education, LOL nice try.--

So the local school board should have no input into what Commissioner DeFronzo described as a set of minimum security standards that the state is going to mandate every school board in the state to comply with in order to open their doors?

nice try--sounds much more important than selling the ability to kiss McKinney's ring for $50 a kiss!

It appears that the local Democrats have realized that they want McKinney to be the Republican candidate for Governor because that will assure Malloy 4 more years!
