Mayor
O'Brien has announced that he is waving the parking fees, at the three city
garages, in order to get as many attendees for the weekend OKTOBER Festival
downtown.
The mayor
fears if the garage parking fees were to stay in effect many would not attend
the affair.

could it be an effort to buy votes with our money?
Wasn't parking supposed to be where the bulk of the money to cover the cost of the event was going to come from???
So the City will lose money in order for O'Brien to buy votes?

" I don't understand why he states that he will be fiscally responsible when he voted for a budget that had highly inflated revenue streams with out of control expenses.
Can someone explain that to me? "

" Matt,
YOu're complaining about out of control expenses when you begged for more money for the baseball league you are president of. When you begged the mayor and the council for the additional funds you got did you suggest where they cut it from? Is money for your league more important than books for poor kids or splash pads for kids who have no AC's?
Stick to baseball kid. Politics ain't your wheelhouse. "

" Matt's not the issue Dana / Phil; a falsified budget with illegally inflated revenue projections that was voted on by a CPA currently in Office and running for reelection is.
Stay focused on the issues Phil, not slinging mud as is your forte. "

" Dana -
What in the world are you talking about? The money that we received from the Council was from the HUD grant plan that is overseen by the federal government!
In regards to the yearly league stipend, we used to get $3,000 under Mayor Stewart. That was decreased to $2,400 under Mayor O'Brien. We have never gotten more!
Please get your facts straight before making these crazy statements!
When word came out that the city was in major debt when Mayor O'Brien took office, we knew there was a possibility our stipend would be cut. In fact, this thought even took place under Mayor Stewart when he had to make tough decisions.
Since 2010, I planned the league budget with the idea that we would not receive a stipend from the city since I knew that there was a great possibility it would be cut.
Now, as KMC1 states, how about the real issue here with a highly inflated revenue stream that is made to justify the out of control spending that is currently going on? "

" Matt Cannata did more than ask for more money from the city for HIS league. He asked for the city to put him on city payroll and pay him for volunteering as a league president etc. Matt, stick with sticks and balls.
Matt, are you going to deny that?
And you should know federal money is relied upon to square the city budget and is often used to reduce costs within the city budget. You taking this money took money away from the city. It's a good cause and I would not have opposed it if I had a vote. I am not the one asking the mayor to create a new position for me, pay me, give my league additional cash and now is complaining about spending.
You seem pretty loyal to young team stewart. good for you. did you tell them you courted the democrats to run for council first and got no interest and so then you moved on to Erin. You might not be any good at politics but you know enough of which side will be the winning team don't you matt. "
How about all the people who are being encouraged to guzzle beer on a city street and then drive home, all for the sake of one of his cronies being able to make millions of dollars?
So the taxpayers will be footing the bill for all the expenses like unlimited police fire and public works overtime?
I'm Tim O'Brien! Watch me wave my magic wand and suddenly reverse everything the Common Council agreed upon!
I am the grocery bagger who would be King! So it is spoken, so it shall be done!
Augustino and O'Brien gave the Herald $7,000 in advertising money!
Someone told me he wasn't all that good as a grocery bagger. Since I don't shop at Stop & Shop, I never had the pleasure of having the mayor bag my groceries.
I heard the Oktoberfest has turned out to be almost as big a failure as the O'Brien/Sherwood mayor-ship.
