The New Britain Herald Editorial regarding Greg Gerratana's 2009
campaign for Tax Collector which appeared on September20, 2009 read as follows:
"Gerratana is the Democratic candidate for tax collector, a position which
requires the highest perception of integrity.
As a result, The Herald has some concerns about Gerratana's
qualifications for that office, given the adolescent nature of his actions. His
party subsequently, made him resign from this campaign."
Now Mr. Gerratana is running again for the same position in the 2013
campaign with Mayor O'Brien sanctioning him to be on his slate for the same
position and I recently called it a lapse of memory the mayor's part, however;
with his inclusion of Mr. Gerratana on his ticket, it demonstrates that Mayor
O'Brien doesn't care about protecting the taxpayers’ interests but only wants
to help elect his friends that will do whatever he wants. This has been his method of operation
throughout the tenure of his administration.
The Mayor happened to be the state
representative that had to relieve Greg from his position at the LOB as his
assistant, therefore; he cannot claim he wasn't aware of the facts. And the Mayor was also aware when Greg was
serving as a New Britain Alderman and he did so while residing at his mother's
pool house located in Berlin and while she was a state elections enforcement
commissioner.
Hey Greg: your Mama cannot deny
you were in the wrong while you were serving on the Common Council while a
resident of Berlin, nor can she cover for you over your abuse of state
computers. Your Mama cannot save you
this time.
The citizens, taxpayers, businesses, Landlords and their tenants will
all suffer if O'Brien gets re-elected with his initiating his proposed
apartment, inspection and hotspot fees.
The public also deserves to be protected against a person the New
Britain Herald Editorial Board described as an adolescent gaining access to
their personal information over city computers, especially since this adolescent
has demonstrated a history of abusing government computers he was trusted with
access to.
It is time to rid such an incompetent person as O’Brien from his office
as the city's mayor and it is also in the best interest of the public’s safety
and well being that someone who has proven himself to be so unworthy of the
public’s trust--as Greg Gerratana has previously demonstrated--not be elected
to an office that has such great potential for abuse of his office. The fact that the mayor would accept a person
with such a questionable character on his ticket should cause each and every
one of you to seriously question the mayor’s judgment.

Rep. Tim O'Brien's Aide Suspended Over Use of State-Owned Computers In New Britain Mayoral Campaign

The New Britain Herald is reporting that an aide to state Rep. Timothy O'Brien has been suspended regarding the use of state-owned computers and negative comments about New Britain's Republican mayor.
O'Brien, a Democrat, is currently running for mayor against the incumbent, Timothy Stewart.
The use of state-owned computers by state employees has been an issue lately as a former state employee says it was common practice for state employees at the University of Connecticut Health Center to use state-owned equipment for non-state business.
In the New Britain case, O'Brien's aide - city alderman Gregory J. Gerratana - has been suspended from his job.
Gerratana is the son of former state Rep. Terry Gerratana, a former state legislator who first started serving in Hartford in January 1993 before eventually running unsuccessfully for Congress against Republican U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson. Gerratana and her husband, an orthopedic surgeon, held a fundraiser this week for O'Brien at their New Britain home.
Douglas Whiting, a spokesman for House Speaker Christopher Donovan, told Capitol Watch that Gerratana was suspended for one week without pay and is expected to return to work next week. Gerratana is paid $35,000 annually - meaning his suspension would cost him $673.
He is currently running for tax collector in New Britain, which pays about $68,000 per year.
"He did not deny it to us,'' Whiting said in an interview. "He readily admitted that it was his computer, and he was the one using it improperly.''
Whiting said the improper use of a state computer is "unacceptable'' in the House Democratic caucus.
"We're pretty vigilant about it,'' Whiting said, noting that new employees are told as soon as they are hired that computers should be used only for state business. "We proactively remind people annually.''
O'Brien could not be reached for comment.
The controversy prompted a large, front-page headline in The Herald and a picture of Gerratana on page three.
"He's been something of an agitator during his tenure on the council, and his immaturity has shown itself on a number of occasions,'' Stewart said of the 24-year-old Gerratana in The Herald. "I hope he learns a lesson, especially since he is supposed to be a leader in this community.''

Gregs going to win and Cheryl will be looking for a job in 2 weeks. She is a lazy campaigner who thinks she get just get elected because those that came before in her family campaigned.
Greg is benefiting from his families connections but unlike Cheryl he actually campaigned, called voters, and knocked on doors. What on earth did Cheryl do?

Wouldn't you think that he would pull out to save his parents the embarrassment? I do not like their issues, but they are decent people.

Word has it that Gerratana took a fall for Rick Lopes and someone else when he admitted using State computers to vilify Tim Stewart. Bot the New Britain Democratic Town Committee doesn't care; the DTC endorsed Lopes for State Rep. even though he was caught rifling through desks at the LOB when he was DeFronzo's Aide and the DTC endorsed Gerratana for Tax Collector; then, Gerratana starts sewing lies about the current tax collector. He never learns and neither does Lopes. How can you trust the New Britain DTC or their leader, John "The Lesser" McNamara?
