EDITORIAL:
In a recent publication the Mayor of New Britain indicated that she will not sell the New Britain Water Bureau. This has been a constant fear of the city’s residents with O’Brien's Administration suggesting such a sale.
In a recent publication the Mayor of New Britain indicated that she will not sell the New Britain Water Bureau. This has been a constant fear of the city’s residents with O’Brien's Administration suggesting such a sale.
However, the
mayor should realize that the area that the water bureau encompasses is at
least ten times acreage of the size of New Britain.
One can
fantasize that much of the land involved is not needed for our water supply therefore;
some of this land could be sold to developers for new commercial or living
structures in order to alleviate the big financial hole that the O’Brien's
administration has left for her to wrangle out of.
Much to her
credit she immediately hired and outside auditing firm to evaluate the distress
situation she faces but, she should also have them consider the sale of water
bureau land that is not required for the production of water in order to help
her out of this mess she acquired when elected
mayor.

I couldn't disagree with you more frank. That land should be considered untouchable. We have more than enough polluted land that's not being used today, where we could look at using federal / private money to clean it up, and get it prepped for new business. Sort of like the Pinnacle Heights project, where Polamer is moving into.
Business brings jobs and real value to the city, and that's where the focus should lie.

Not a good idea at all. Watershed property is just that the land the surrounds and abuts the water protecting the water. We can't sell off watershed land for building and housing etc.
We should sell all the land, build houses and roads, then we can drink runoff water from oily roads and from septic leeching fields.

MDC has rows of houses abutting their reservoirs in West Hartford, then they open the grounds to the public so they can walk their dogs and have them crap and pee all around the reservoir.
