"Isn't it time for Trueworthy to Go?"

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

It is time for Mr. Trueworthy to step down from the city council completely and to take a long break from public service.

It has become common knowledge that he publicly embarrassed himself and the city in 2 recent incidents.

In the first incident he publicly referred to a woman by using the “C” word or even worse and then told her to go do something sexual to herself.  At the root of this sickening conduct towards a woman was that he seemed to feel he was better than her because he as much as told her so during his intoxicated tirade.
In yet another incident he created a public disturbance in a crowded restaurant by displaying what he described as his personal disgust for homosexuals by reportedly yelling anti-gay remarks across a crowded restaurant at the married gay couple that owns the restaurant.

Mr. Trueworthy has publicly admitted that both of these incidents took place and has apologized for his disgusting and hateful conduct and blames his actions on his admittedly being intoxicated at the time of both of these incidents.  As a token of his sincerity he has offered to step down from his position as the Mayor Pro Tem on the Council, but says he will remain a member of the City Council. But can the public accept him on their council after such openly hateful conduct directed towards two separate minority groups and can we accept his excuse that the booze made him do it?

Mr. Trueworthy says that his conduct doesn’t really reveal his true feelings toward women and homosexuals, but science tells us otherwise:

"You can't pour vodka on a turnip and have it say anti-Semitic remarks," and "Alcohol can't make you think or feel things,"  says Gary L. Malone, MD, an addiction psychiatrist and the medical director and chief of psychiatry at Baylor All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.”

"People should be held accountable for what they say drunk as well as sober, and forgiveness should not be based on 'the alcohol made me do it'…”  adds Carleton Kendrick EdM, LCSW, a family therapist in Boston. "I don't accept that because one does not explode in the tirade that he came forth unprovoked without believing in the thoughts that he expressed," he says.
"Alcoholics will tell you that they try to watch what they say when they are drunk, but that's a conundrum because alcohol frees the tongue to say what is in the heart," he adds. (Is Alcohol a Truth Serum, By DeniseMann, WebMD Feature Reviewed by Louise Chang MD)

Mr. Trueworthy tells us that he doesn’t really hate these 2 groups that he offended, but experts are telling us that alcohol can’t make you say something that you don’t really feel in your heart just because you are intoxicated.  No one can tell us for sure what is really in Mr. Trueworthy’s heart or mind, but after his disgusting conduct toward women and homosexuals, how can either of these groups or even any minority group ever accept him to represent their interests on the council?  Is this the kind of vile and degrading conduct that our local Democratic Party is willing to accept from their leadership?
As Mr. Kendrick said in his report, people need to be held accountable for what they do when they are drunk and we should not accept “alcohol made me do it” as an excuse, especially when such hatred was launched against 2 distinct minority groups.

It is time for Mr. Trueworthy to stop blaming alcohol for his conduct and do the right thing for the city and the people he was elected to represent including the women and homosexuals he so openly defiled by resigning from the council.

A person commits the third degree crime if he intends to intimidate or harass a person or group of people because of their actual or perceived race, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression and he (1) damages, destroys, or defaces any property or (2) threatens to do so by word or act or advocates or urges another person to do so and gives the victim reasonable cause to believe the act will occur. This is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison, a fine of up to $2,000, or both (CGS § 53a-181l).

Record and Classification of Crimes

Town police departments, resident state troopers, and constables who perform law enforcement duties must monitor, record, and classify these crimes. They must report the data to the State Police who must also monitor, record, and classify them (CGS § 29-7m).

Action for Damages

A person injured by conduct that falls under these crimes can sue for damages for his injury. The court must award triple damages if the injured person prevails and may award other relief and reasonable attorney's fees. The injured party must file the lawsuit within three years of the acts complained of (CGS § 52-571c).

I am not surprised at all. Democrats have 200 plus years of being the party of hate while Republicans are the party of inclusion.

I was wondering why the mayor's aid would run to Gerratana to help the Democrats sweep this incident under the rug? Makes you really wonder who is running this city?

With all that has been published about Alderman Trueworthy he should resign his council seat and get the necessary medical help he needs thus avoid any political involvement.

It would seem that Trueworthy was so high that he must have been having flashbacks to a time when a different Stewart was in the mayor's office!

2:06 PM, not sure what rug anyone is sweeping anything under when the police are called simultaneously and a police report is filed.

Frank:
Every two years, supporters of Democrat candidates for Council, sheepishly vote in the same group of do nothing Council members, those who are controlled by the same old partisan, political Democrat dynasties like the DeFronzos. These people preach the same thing year in and year out, i.e., reject unconditionally any initiative put forth by any Republican City official.

Democrats are interested only in themselves, partisanship and perpetual reelection. They are not smart nor do they get anything done. They are interested only in confrontation.
