CPOA isn’t a one-party organization

I am writing in response to a recent Herald article as an ultra-conservative registered Democrat and former president of the Citizens Property Owners Association for 18 years.  We had members of both political parties, among them many well-known Democrats (mayors, city officials, department heads and professionals whose party affiliation had no bearing) and they chose to be taxpayer watchdogs. All were conservative thinkers.

To assume it was a one-party association for taxpayers is ridiculous. The concern of this association is to keep city government accountable for its spending and taxation. We always welcome members to be a partner for New Britain’s good welfare.

Incidentally, as its former president over the years, our association had the best working and cooperative relationship with former Mayor Timothy Stewart who was always receptive to taxpayers’ concerns. We look forward to the same spirit of cooperation from our mayor, Erin Stewart.

Congratulations are now in order to Michael DeGrandis, newly elected president of this organization in its 90th year to continue our worthwhile mission.

Member of the Board of Directors, Citizens Property Owners Association, Inc.
