Complaints by the New Britain Business surfaces from Meter Rates Increases!

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Sadly many of the business operations don’t have parking facilities for their customers who have to pay up $2 per hour for at the parking meter.  On their return they may fine parking fine for thirty dollars when returning a little late.  Why would their customers continue to shop at their New Britain stores when surrounding towns such as Berlin, Farmington, Newington, and Plainville offer free parking facilities at their stores making it hard for New Britain’s businesses to survive while watching their former customers heading to those area towns.

I stopped using a photography studio that is on Main Street because of the hassle of parking and having to run to put coins in the meter in the middle of my visit. I now use a studio in Plainville that has a private free parking lot in front of his studio, so I no longer need to fight for parking on the street on Main Street and then spend my entire visit worrying whether or not my meter has expired. As an added bonus I feel totally safe in Plainville while that would be hard to say in downtown New Britain at any time.

don't forget all the bums and panhandlers you have to fight your way past from your parking space to the front door of the store you are going to!

You could always shop on Broad Street because white Polish people are apparently exempt from having to pay for parking like everyone else is forced to!

You have a point #3, why didnt Mayor O'Brien do anything about that when he was mayor ? Sounds like he was pandering for their votes, that bastard !

Wasn't it Lucien that put the meters in in the first place? That might explain why Broad Street was left out, wouldn't it?

I can't think of a reason why I would ever want to visit downtown New Britain or Hartford for that matter.

I agree with Mr. Amato's please with his asking the New Britain town Council members to eliminate meter requirement until Christmas for the shoppers vesting the city's stores.

Mr. Amato is 100% correct in saying that all the meters do is drive away customers to other towns where parking is simply free.

...but her highness did suspend the parking meters for the few days leading up to Christmas.

Since New Britain has so little to offer anyone, shouldn't they be paying us to park there?

Why would you pay at the meter to park and then risk your life running from the car to the building trying to avoid the muggers when you can just park for free in many of the surrounding towns, and then their stores have cheaper prices anyway because they have lower taxes and no nonsense like this to deal with?

There is just no reason on earth to ever visit downtown New Britain unless you have an affection for junkies and pan handlers.

....maybe if your drug connection is operating out of the park across from city hall?

What about the 16,000 people a day who are going to come to downtown New Britain on the busway every day?

According to the former mayor Stewart happy days are going to be here again once that busway opens!
