I was shocked to actually read a quote from Mayor Timothy Stewart in the New Britain Herald! I couldn't believe it, the Herald actually reporting what the mayor had to say, but then I noticed for the first time in a long time, the article was not written by Phony Phil Sherwack's personal secretary, Rick, Guinness.

Will wonders ever cease?

When I grew up my family had limited resources. We were expected to make sacrifices for the good of the family. If we could not afford the extras we went without. Too often nowadays people believe that they have a "right" to some municipal services. Like my Dad always said if we can't afford it, we can't afford it. As a community we need to make tough choices. Do we need Parades, fireworks, etc? Does the lighting need to be on at 9 o’clock at night at the ball courts at Washington Park? In the winter!! I am certain that there are many areas were municipal funding can be temporarily be eliminated for the good of the family. I implore ALL of the city alderman to take a realistic look at the city budget. Do we really need to fund all of the pet projects at the current levels? Let’s be realistic Many of the social services offered by the town are in fact used by citizens of nearby towns. I propose a system of verification that people are in fact town citizens when applying for city assistance. The social service system is broke. Ride along on a Hartford to New Britain city bus and listen closely to what some of our visitors from other towns are up to. Many of the residents of the shelters (which are funded in part by the city) are from the burbs. If we are to provide food and shelter paid for by residents of town then maybe we should have a system in place that has a "work for services" clause. Graffiti removal, street cleaning, snow removal are some of the services that can be performed not to mention preparing and serving food at the shelters.

Now that the Governor has proposed her budget it is up to our Mayor and his super minority of two aldermen to go through the budget with a fine tooth comb. Your guys have got to cut, cut and cut. Start with the Kurtz budget. We cannot afford a 6% increase!

Furlough / layoffs? We need to do more with less. People making more than the Mayor? They should be the first to go. Overtime. Cut. Contracts. Freeze them.

Dear Shocked,

While I, too, was amazed the Herald quoted the Mayor I couldn't believe Sherwood is still the voice of the Council. Where is their Majority Leader Truworthy? Where is chatty Suzie? Hell where are the Republican alderman's comments? I know there is more than one alderman on the council.

New Herald ownership, same management, same product.

CNN has been shilling for Obama since their first encounter, that much was clear. Even now they are continuing to defend the proposals in this Senate Stimulus Bill in the face of obvious discontent.

The majority of Americans have already realized that they are being taken for a fool and now half believe this Stimulus Bill will not only fail to stimulate, but will the opposite effect!

The U.S. Senators should be throwing out this piece of junk and starting over, instead they are proposing amendments by the 100s in order to bring just enough individuals over to pass this heap 'o crap.

CNN is doing everything they can to defend the president and in the words of Chris Matthews have taken it upon themselves to make this presidency work.

CNN's highlighting of Keynesian economics, despite it's historic failure is equally transparent and pathetic.

Who watches CNN? The Commie News Network?

Contrary to conventional Washington Beltway wisdom, the House Republicans' zero votes for the Obama presidency's stimulus "package" is looking like the luckiest thing to happen to the GOP's political fortunes since Ronald Reagan switched parties.

If the current GOP Senate line holds, the party could win back much of the goodwill it dissipated with its big-government adventures the past eight years.

For starters, notwithstanding the Obama president's high approval rating, his Stimulus Bill (ghost-written by Nancy Pelosi) has been losing altitude with American public opinion by the day.

People are nervous over the U.S.A. economy going into the tank.

The new Great Democrats Communicator Obama is stumbling in the Stimulus package debate -- and public support is dropping -- because for 30 years Democrats' in Senate and House have lied about the role of Federal Government money policy as an engine of capitalist growth in the American economy.squay

The word around the paper is that if Rick G gets fired he will help
HUD in their continuing investigation of corruption in New Britain involving Malinowski and Stewart

It doesn't matter that Obama won the White House seat. It doesn't matter if he has a Mandate. It doesn't even matter if he's the Messiah Ptresident.

But... Senators and Representatives answer to their constituents, not Obama.

I read the herald most days. I have no problems with their reporting. I wish the paper was thicker.

I don't like all the negative name calling on this blog. If you don't agree with someone come out and say it. It looks intellectually weak to have person after person name calling other people, I just don't see what service that provides.

Sounds like one of the Dumbocrat mushrooms from the council.

Just think, if the Democrats in New Britain weren't so sleazy, we wouldn't have anyone to make fun of.
