Chris Healy, chairman of the state Republican Party, took issue with the union’s assessment of Rell’s budget proposal.:

“The governor has acted boldly and gone right to the heart of long-term issues that drive costs and have created an unresponsive government. Putting arbitration on ice, consolidation of agencies, reducing mandates, eliminating state jobs and reducing bonding and salaries show Gov. Rell has the guts and courage to do what is needed to save our state and not worry about political consideration,” he said.

The Governor is doing what is right for all the people of Connecticut.

John Olsen is right that change is needed. It is about time that the Governor started running the state and not being dictated to by a bunch of under worked, overpaid union members who are getting massive pay increases during a time when the rest of us are suffering.

Keep up the good work Governor, and with any luck we will see similar actions at the city level and in the BOE.

Now is the time to look for responsible cuts, not to propose massive multi-million dollar budget increases like what is going on at the New Britain Board of Education.

It is about time the teachers became part of the solution by offering some give backs instead of demanding massive pay raises. Their current efforts are going to have to result in huge increases in your property taxes, so if you remain silent now, don't cry to the rest of us when you need a second job just to pay your tax bill.
