Thanks for uncovering the tax delinquencies of some of New Britain's common council members.
Does this mean since they are finding
it hard to pay THEIR tax bills will
these four be willing to support
Mayor Stewart's call for a tax cut
for the rest of us?
Frank, anyone delinquent on their
water & sewer bills?
He didn't cut taxes this year.
North-oak NRZ Meeting!!!

Mayor nether cuts nor raises taxes; Common Council sets the mill rate and thus, taxes.
Cap-and-Trade legislation is now Toast...
At the recent House hearing in Washington D.C. for Mr. Al Gore - who is pushing his investment portfolio for which he is so aggressively lobbying, we just saw something of great import, affirming what we have been telling folks for a while now.
That former Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Dingell (D) said: that cap-and-trade is a tax and it’s a great big one - TAX.
Remember what MoveOn said last week: If the Republicans convince the voters that clean energy legislation amounts to a new tax, Obama’s plan is toast.
So, it seems that Rep.Mr. Dingell is convinced that his Democratic party's cap-and-trade rationing taxes are now toast.
What about fixing the quality of life issues here in New Britain and what about making New Britain more liveable instead of looking like a dump
Tim O'Brien's NB Exploratory Committee....
The Exploratory Committee has been around political scene for decades, and technically it creates a legal shell for a candidate who expects to spend more than $5,000 while contemplating an actual run for office.
Under the rules, exploratory money may be raised without the full disclosure of sources required of true candidate. Only when the candidate drops the exploratory label does the full responsibility of transparency apply.
Candidates use an exploratory committee as not only a transitional phase for their bookkeeping but as an extra claim on media attention. Some of the most skillful handlers like to leak word that their candidate is testing the waters, then leak word that he or she is thinking about forming an exploratory committee.
Additional " political news" can be made when the same candidate actually forms such a committee and registers with the CT Election Commission.
REP. Cafero said his main reason for forming an exploratory committee is the fundraising advantages under Connecticut's new campaign finance laws ...
Also - Exploratory, draft or "testing the waters" committees are formed solely for the purpose of determining the feasibility of an individual’s candidacy for office.
The activities of exploratory committees may include polling, travel, and telephone calls to determine whether the individual should become a candidate.

Connecticut Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz announced that she has filed papers to form an Exploratory Committee for a 2010 gubernatorial bid ...

Anonymous said... The North Oak NRZ and its Pres., Rich Marzi are a joke and a front for liberal Council Democrats. The two Ward Democrat Council people in that area are, ? ? Can anyone name them?
Also, as far as exploratory committees are concerned, they are only a tool that allows potential candidates to beef up their war chests by allowing them to put the bite on heavy campaign donors. Which potential candidates for municipal office next November have formed exploratory committees - call the NB Town Clerk's office and find out. You won't be surprised!
The two Council Members for the North Oak area are Sylvia Cruz and Shirley Black. Is that the voting district where Frank Smith lives? If so, he ought to run in spite of the fact that he was told that ward's Council position is to be held by a Puerto Rican, If that's the case, neither Ms. Black nor Ms. Cruz qualify. Besides, this is America, and any New Britain resident, regardless of ethnicity, who lives in that ward qualifies. Go for it, Frank!!

In New Britain, "explorers" for the November municipal election are, TIM O'BRIEN AND GREG GERRANTANA. O'Brien is one of our "do nothing for New Britain" state reps while Gerrantana is a NB Common Council member. For what offices have they formed exploratory committees and why? Read the blogs and get your answer.
Oh, Gerrantana works as an aide to O'Brien at the state legislature. What a setup!
Why is it that Alderman Gerratanna drives a vehicle with an out state tag? If its a car rental the rental firm must register the vehicle in the state that the driver resides.
SO WHY?
What's worse?
(1) paying your taxes late and paying a penalty
OR
(2) registering your car(s) out of town or out of state?
To Annoymous that asked:

The Alderman drove around with our of state plates cannot be termed a tax SCOFFLAW like his four other members but could be termed a Tax Cheat.
The Rationing Of Medical Care for Senior Citizens!
Washington -- Obama administration officials, alarmed at doctor shortages, are looking for ways to increase the number of physicians to meet the needs of an aging senior population and millions of uninsured people who would gain coverage under legislation -universal health care championed by the president.
The officials said they were particularly concerned about shortages of primary-care providers who are the main source of health care for most Americans.
One proposal -- to increase Medicare payments to general practitioners, at the expense of high-paid specialists -- has touched off a lobbying fight.
Family doctors and internists are pressing Congress for an increase in their Medicare payments. But medical specialists are lobbying against any change that would cut their reimbursements. Congress, the specialists say, should find additional money to pay for primary care and should not redistribute dollars among doctors -- a difficult argument at a time of huge budget deficits.
The Democrats of the New Britain Town Council, Where do we start?
1. Where is Phil Sherwood?
2. As Seinfeld would say,
"What’s the deal with lawmakers not paying their taxes?" are they exempt?
3. Does Alderman Catanzaro even know the definition of ethics?
4. Have we fed all the ferial animals, and should the city consider getting them sweaters in the winter because you know it can get cold in New England in the winter.
5. Has the Iraqi insurgency sent out the thank you notes for the council resolution denouncing the occupation of Iraq by the "Evil" American military establishment?
6. Are the new owners of the restaurant at the golf course selling Martin Rosol dogs? How does Capital Lunch feel about this?
7. Has the new sheriff received his honorary badge from the crackerjack company yet?
8. Can we get a quorum here?
9. What happened to Phil Sherwood again?
10. Will that former reporter be coming to the town hall summer picnic?
11. If he does will he give Craven over at the Herald the number to the democrats red phone?
12. Remember your parents never really throw you out; their home is always your home.
13. What is the majority leader talking about?
14. Though he claims to have shaken everyone's hand that state rep still hasn't shaken mine.
15. When is a park too clean?
16. Pssst you, ya you, you want some fire wood?
17. Has everyone got the memo from the chairman, who we throwing under the bus this election?
18. What are the other 5 council members names again?
The Hartford Courant has reported
the U.S. Sen. Chriropher Dodd, saying the price he paid for the cottage in Ireland amouted to a gift from a friend accusing the Senator from disclosing this particlular gift on government disclosue forms.

Frank Smith broke the story about the Common Council property tax scofflaws on his blog. Although the Herald followed up on the story and exposed the four to the general public, it's sad that it took a expose' like Smith's to get these elected officials to pay up, although so far, it's partial payments for some.
As far as "tax cheats" are concerned, where you sleep and where you live are simply unfounded and silly accusations - "SAME OLD, SAME OLD" LIBERALS' EXCUSES! BLAME, BLAME, BLAME.
ALDERMAN gERTANAN KNOWS HE HAS BEEN LIVING IN BERLIN. WHY THE LIBERAL FAFRICATIONS?

While the Herald is 100% better since the takeover, remember, with very few exceptions most print media are liberals. As far as the tax scofflaws are concerned they feel they are now up to speed and are vindicated. That's baloney They should be reminded in November who it is that they cheated.
As for the Gerratana domicile issue, that was a whitewash by the Herald.
Alderman Gerrantana is living in
Berlin? With a mailing address or
just shacking up?
In an older post here at FSSNB the
council voted for the Plate Finder to catch those with un-paid parking tickets. This equipment it stated can be uploaded to also
find and impound vehicles with over-due motor vehicle taxes. The same people that are making decisions regarding keeping the rest of us in line obviously have no fear that their rules will apply
to them. Mr. Cantanzaro is an employee at the Park & Rec department and does receive compensation for his time on the council. He can't keep current with with his taxes? How embarrassing.
There will never be a time to cut defense spending without losing jobs. We need to divert this money to paying our debts, by providing health care and education for the middle class.
These are areas which will provide our best security, not some obsolete inefficient defense program designed to keep a few jobs and politicians in business.
While some folks advocate spending billions on F-22s and Future Combat Systems, line units in the U.S. Army can't send all the soldiers they would like to Ranger School or Master Gunner School because they don't have a big enough training budget.
Which do you think is gonna help us exit Iraq and Afghanistan with a positive result, F-22s and next generation armored vehicles, or Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines with the best combat training and equipment available?
The Ferrell cats are a big problem...There are people who look like "bag ladies" leaving food for them every day, outside the fence around Pinnacle Heights. This may be creating health problems, since there are school children waiting for school buses in the area, not to mention the students attending DiLoreto School. Someone should throw these cats over the fence and let the Caterpillar equipment bury them. The cats are roaming the neighborhoods looking for food.
Paul Carver in today's Herald opinions made the following remarks regarding the Council's method of operation.
The council has never established a program, legally. That is typical for this dysfunctional group of wannabe leaders.
Appropriate money, but take no action on legislation. Criticize the mayor's budget, but take no action on offering alternatives or improvements. Propose ethics rules, but take no action when Violations occur. Tax, but take no action to pay your own taxes.

FRANK SMITH WOULD SLAUGHTER EITHER ONE OF THESE CANDIDATES. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM RUN AS A REPUBLICAN, AND KICK OUT ONE OF THESE LIBERAL LOONS! IT IS ABOUT TIME WE STOOD UP AGAINST SOCIALISM.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
You have another one of the tax cheat aldermen who is retired from the state, collecting a sizeable state pension and both he and his wife now work for the board of education and of course he too gets compensated for serving on the council, but they say that it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS if they don't pay their taxes!!!!!
on election day, maybe you can MAKE IT YOUR BUSINESS!
Maybe our eminent alderman is learning from the high ranking leaders of his own party?
When questioned by a member of the media about the pending investigations into 4 separate allegations of ethics violations, Congressman Charlie Wrangell replied on camera: "Why don't you mind your own God damn business."
So it follows that if the ethics violations of a Congressman are none of our business, then non-payment of taxes by our local elected officials is none of our business either.
Way to go Democrats!
CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!!!
In a Herald article today it states
that Frank Smith is running as democrat in Ward 3 for council this fall. I am a republican and would have loved to see Frank on the Republican ticket but putting politics aside, thank you Frank for
stepping up to the plate if we don't get more republicans on the council at least we need good democrats.
