The Democratic Ticket—The Unethical Slate of Candidates: EDITORIAL

The Democratic Party has earned the title of the unethical party. They have among their endorsed slate of candidates, Paul Catanzaro whom they have seen fit to nominate for re-election in November. This is an Alderman who cost the city badly needed funding through his multiple conflicts of interest that were so egregious that even the federal government refused to provide badly needed funding to city programs because of his conflicts involving having been president of H.R.A. and an alderman at the same time.

Then there is the issue of his being an employee of the Parks Department, while voting on issues that effect his department and even voting against contracting out of Parks Department work-- thereby creating the possible availability of overtime for himself, but the pièce de résistance is when he recently spoke on, and then voted against his own ethics commission report finding him in violation of city ethics policies. According to the city charter, any member of the council who is heard to speak on, or who votes on an issue in which he has a personal interest shall be expelled from the council.

When he did this, it was in the presence of his 13 fellow Democrats, on the public record and televised to the public on community access television, so there is no disputing what happened. Catanzaro was even quoted by a local newspaper as saying that if he didn’t vote on his own issue, then he couldn’t speak on it, so he decided to vote so he could address the council—in direct violation of the charter.

What earns the Democratic candidates the title of the unethical slate of candidates is that not only did they vote to reject the bi-partisan, unanimous findings of their own ethics commission against their cohort, but they also failed to perform their sworn duty of office to remove Catanzaro from the council as the charter mandated under the circumstances that they were all witness to and sworn to uphold.

Of course he is not the only one of the Democratic Aldermen who failed to pay his/her property taxes until he was exposed on this blog, but it at least deserves him a mention on that issue here too. The alderman who also works full time for the city Parks Department was quoted as saying that he couldn’t pay his $248.48 car tax bill until he received his tax refund—but of course the rest of us who aren’t elected to the council and who don’t receive a salary from the city are expected to pay on time.

For the party to nominate this individual with such a history of conflicts of interest and unethical behavior is as outrageous as the Democratic Party nominating Chris Dodd for re-election and deserves to be just as popular.

And think they will all still win!!!

And think they will all still win!!!

Why do you think that in a city that voted for John McCain for President last year? The Democratic Party wasn't even able to deliver a victory for Barrack Obama in New Britain, so how can you say that. I would think that is a mjor embarrassment for Little Mac, the lesser one that he failed to deliver for the Messiah?

If some of them win it would be a huge punch in the face for the voters. I truly believe that the voters in New Britain Are NOT THAT STUPID.

Frank:

Well done. Couldn't have done it better myself. The Dems have have put up for reconderation for Council, 10 of the 13 dumbbells that sit there now. We will see in November if people in New Britain vote the party line or use their heads. Gerratana for Tax Collector! HA! What a sorry joke. This kid has just now bought a piece of property in New Britain. It will be up to the press to see and examine where his and his wife' cars are registered and when that was done. Police take notice. Where does their car insurance have them living? What does it say on their driver's licenses?
What a sorry ass bunch!

The Democrats actually did the voters a favor. By endorsing the same ole, same ole, it's almost a given the Republicans will win this election by an overwhelming landslide.

Nice house though. So he is looking for a job as tax collector?
He has a big house to pay for.

A disgrace you wern't picked for constable frank there is just no diversity to that bunch

I think the R's will surprise people in November. Does anyone know why Mr. Salvio is not running in my local ward and is running city wide?

You know, as I see it the problem is there is no football to watch on TV. As soon as the season is underway we can all forget about this political garbage.

Let the games begin.

Maybe so that the voters can do the right thing and blow Cantazaro off the council once and for all?

Quite an accurate criticism of his own party by a Democrat!

The Democratic name brand must really be in trouble. Even the Obamamania network NBC is joining CBS, ABC, and CNN in reporting that Obama's approval rating is plummeting.

It must be really bad if even the liberal media is now talking about it.

Sounds like a really good year to be running for office as a Republican.

Frank:
I am sure that the blogger quoted above realizes that Mr. Salvio, by running at large, IS running in every local Ward. Ward I voters will still be voting for Mr. Salvio if they so choose.

Lets show the Dems how smart the voters of new Britain really are and vote all of there out of office. Wouldn't it be great to have Tim Stewart work with a group of Republicans who have the best interest of the city as their priority ....not those of Democratic Townchair!

One can only hope that moderate Democrats are listening. In the last 5-10 years the yahoos have snuck in and took over

I forgot about how McNamara failed to deliver for Obama, thanks for reminding us.

MacNamara is a disappointment as chairman. He has a band of aldermen who don't think they have to pay taxes, then there is Conflicts Catanzaro whic speaks for itself, and he can't even control his own party. He has a fellow Democrat exposing all the transgressions of the local party which is becoming a full time job. Maybe it is time for a new vision and a new leader to return the party back to the working class.

I would nominate a McNamara just not the current one.

What do you think Billy Mac?

NEW BRITAIN CT – The Hardware City:

This is the break down of the 27,400 manufacturing jobs and the projected employee manufacturing Floor Space that might be created by NB politician Tim O’Brien if he ever launches his long-term 2009-2010 Economic Development Plan for the City of New Britain – can he do – 27,400 jobs - if elected Mayor?

1.- 4,200 American Hardware Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,255,912 feet.

2.- 3,000 Landers, Frary and Clark Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 42 acres .

3.- 1,200 North and Judd Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 850,000 feet.

4.- 5,500 Fafnir Ball Bearing Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,000,000 feet.

5.- 13,500 Stanley Works Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 1,291,456 feet.

6.- Skinner Chuck Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 65,000 feet.

Rep. Tim O’Brien has stated in his political campaign for Mayor’s Office - that if elected he would return manufacturing jobs to New Britain. This is a novel, but unrealistic idea considering that the majority of manufacturing jobs were moved either to more business friendly states, or overseas to countries where labor markets are much cheaper.

However, candidate O’Brien stated in his campaigning that city voters are seeking someone like Tim who might bring back a time of "new beginnings" in NB by bringing back home some 27,400 industrial manufacturing jobs that once made NB the Hardware City of the World?

I know how the Democrats could find good leadership and direction, why don't they nominate Frank Smith for party chairman?

At least he was able to get the tax delinquents on the council to pay their property taxes which is more than the current chairman was able to do!

I am just wondering when this charade that the Dem Chair is not related to the ex mayor

Cut out of the same cloth and definitely related!

Stop lying about it Frank

Is that why they call him "Little Mac, the Lesser One?"

Puhleeze!! No comparison between the 2 MacNamara's!! Billy Mac is a scholar and a gentleman, John Macnamara is not! Also, Billy Mac is good looking...Is John? LOL

Anonymous said...

From what I have heard the false assumption that little mac (the liberal) is the son of Big Mac (the gentleman and scholar) is at least partly responsible for his getting as far as he has, and that could be the reason some of his cronies seem to be trying to continue that charade. They know the truth hurts.

which one of the macnamara's is that supposed to be in the photo?

The MacNamara in the photo looking like a sheepish ranch hand is John MacNamara is actually Jeb Clampett incogneto.

Interestingly enough the Republican Ticket is truly bipartisan this year, fielding a number of democrats and unaffiliated members. It is sad when the Democrats don't want to be associated with the Town Chairman and his circus.
