The Town of Berlin has a terrible track record for attracting and or keeping businesses. The Berlin Turnpike is thriving as far as the
Berlin line. Sam's Club just moved
a few steps north into Newington.
Newington has been progressive right along and their economic tax
revenue paves the way for stable property taxes and education funding for it's youngest residents. Berlin on the other hand fights everything. Taxes are very high in town and they have very little to rely on by way of big business to supplement their municipal needs. Who would really want the VIP near their house but if you buy a home on the Turnpike you take a risk. Residents have complained it hurts their property values but they paid less to begin with for a house in that location.
It is probable that the VIP will open and be a great success. I believe the owner's paid more than 2 million dollars for the former furniture store building and they have sat with the property during this long legal battle. Now they are going to get down to business.
