Frank, I don't see your name on the list of endorsed candidates.
The blog makes you too controversial I imagine.

Now that the campaign is underway the voters of New Britain need to be well informed. Our current mayor Tim has worked hard to keep
property taxes stable during his 3 terms. Property tax reform has been his opponent Tim's focus while
he represents the city at the state
level. It has been Tim O'Brien's good talk but nothing has materialized. Now he asks to lead the city and abandon his efforts in the legislature?

More importantly this year is shaking up the members on the common council. The largely democratic council has dogged our mayor's efforts continually. Additionally many of them have committed ethics breaches, have conflict of interests with regard
to their jobs and decisions they
make on the council. One member Paul Cantanzaro should have taken
this point to bow out of local politics. He has embarrassed himself over and over again. He works for the Parks and Rec department under the direction of
Mr. DiMaio and he makes decisions for that department on the council?
He is usually negative with his boss. Most voters don't have any idea what goes on.

Let's hope that the facts can be relayed to voters this year. Thanks Frank for your blog and for
keeping us all informed.

Where does Tim O'Brien come off accusing the Republicans of mud slinging? I haven't encountered any mud slinging by the Republicans. Accusing the Republicans of mud slinging where there is none is a form of mud slinging...

You didn't see Frank's name on the list because he exposed the Democrats for their sleazy dealings and for being the tax delinquents that many of them are, and for little mac the lesser one, the truth about his sleazy bunch of misfits must really hurt!

Who is going to vote for a person who constantly pushes for more spending and higher taxes to fund more socialist programs and then doesn't even see the need to pay his/her own taxes while expecting you to pay yours?

“I believe, deep in my heart, that New Britain can be brought back, that we can restore hope to the people of our city. And I believe that the Democratic Party, as the party of the people, is where the new ideas and vision must come to change from policies that benefit a select few to leadership that benefits all of the people of New Britain. As I have said, I want this campaign to be about empowering the people of our city, not just about electing one person.” O’Brien, serving his fourth term in the Legislature, previously was elected to the Common Council.

Apparently O'Brien thinks that seizing 30% of a business's income as he supported in the legislature is good for the people and is going to help him bring the 27,400 manufacturing jobs that he promised to bring to New Britain because these future employers will be happy to give almost one third of their future incomes to the State of Connecticut?

By being a part of the renegade bunch that has prevented our state from having a budget when even California has resolved their $24 billion deficit is true leadership--isn't it?

this is a case of "If you repeat it enough people will believe it." socialism 101.

It is sort of like "We won't raise your taxes" and "I will bring back industrial jobs" and "It's Stewarts fault"

To show you how out of touch with reality the Democrats are, the local party keeps claiming that Obama's policies are going to be ever so popular that Democrats are going to sweep in and take over at all levels of government.

I am a registered Republican, and today I received a panic letter from Democratic National Party Chairman, Governor Tim Kaine, approaching me as a Republican and pleading with me as a Republican to make a donation to his party.

To quote Governor Kaine: "I am troubled by the fundraising lead the Republicans have taken during the first quarter of the year."

If the tide is not turning against the Democrats in this country, then who is making all these donations to the Republican Party? And why is the Democratic chairman pleading with Republicans to help him catch up to Republican fundraising?

O'Brien said: "So many new Democratic leaders are running for the first time this year after being inspired during last year's elections," he said. "You and I are running this year to make the change we worked hard for nationally last year a reality in our own community."

Shows how out of touch with reality O'Brien is. They are not mentioning that his Messiah's approval rating is dropping like a brick--dropping 8 points in the last month. Obama has yet to have as high an approval rating as George W. Bush did up to this time in the Bush Presidency. Not too encouraging for the Democrats, is it? Maybe that should be their campaign slogan: our president is less popular than Bush!

what coattails is O'Brien talking about, Obama lost here in New Britain!

Obama takes Connecticut, but not the New Britain area

Frank:
The democrats reendorsed ten of the worst Council democrats this city has ever seen. Do nothing, know nothing people who are tax scofflaws, and who are mired in conflict of interest and ethics violations. The dems do nothing to discipline these people and then say, "oh come on back" we'll still support and protect you. Stammering, "off the subject" Trueworthy and the walking conflict of interest, Catanzaro are back. This group has only one thing going for it, i.e., a 4.5 to 1 voter registration advantage, nothing else.

This ratio hasn't helped their last 3 Mayoral candidates and didn't even work for Barrack Obama in New Britain, so with the public becoming so disenfranchised by Democrats and their ultra-liberal agenda, maybe the time has come for the nonsense to end now and some responsible members on the council.

Since the Board of Education spends more than 50% of the municipal budget, let us look at the candidates. OK. Sharon Saavedra is bright and committed to her cause. Louisa Leal voted 100% for everything Doris Kurtz wanted. Judy Greco left her position as Housemaster at the NBHS after she did not get approved to be the new principal. When she was removed to the third floor from the second floor, she quit.

She went on to be the principal of the faltering Aquinas High School where she prooved to be a disaster and they asked her to leave.

She, apparently, bamboozeled, as is her way, both McNamara and Stewart to get on both tickets. She outsmarted the two of them. She is a great fan of Doris Kurtz.
As Chairman of the Women in Leadership of the YWCA, she nominated both Doris Kurtz and, believe it or not, the mayor's daughter, Erin for the two of the five prestigeous positions.

It was pay back time. Shame on all of them.

Paul Carver, et al have been opportunists with the Republican Party with vey little effort and big pay back.

Tony has been around the block many times. Will he be a good school board member.

No way. I am sitting this one out!

To correct the comment about "Tony" running on the school board. The writer is confusing the current candidate for school board and political newcomer Tony Kane (with a K) who is a teacher in another town and whose grandfather was city assessor with Tony Cane (with a C) who is a long time Republican RTC member. I think we should all follow Frank Smith's example and stay informed and not spread misinformation.

Teachers and politicians do not make good school board members. We need business people to run for the BOE. In fact, New Britain would be better served if we had an MBA with leadership experience and qualifications instead of an EED, like Kurtz. She consistently fails and would be replaced long ago if we had strong board leadership. There are Assistant Superintendents to manage the academic responsibilities.

Of course, getting rid of the unions and tenure would be the real answer.
