Wasn't the so-called champion of ethics one of the Democrats who was responsible for ramming through the appointment of Candelori to manage our millions of dollars in taxpayer funds?

Haaaa That's why I like Tim Stewart he doesn't sugar coat it. Just tells it like it is.
As a voter in the fourth district, I especially feel badly that Craig and Don did not win.
I could ask," How could people be so stupid as to put these obstructionsts in power to represent us."
It must be clear by now that they knew not what they were doing.
Once again, I blame the self serving Republican leaders for a lack of vision, a lack of the expertise to reach out and educate the masses.
If you continue with the same old stale leadership than you get what you deserve!
The problem is nepotism. Paul Carver, the RTC president and wishy washy BOE member is protecting his wife's job as the head honcho in the mayor's office.
The mayor could do without Paul Carver, but not Lisa Carver. However, one hand washes the other.
We need to reach the conservative Democrats in this city and educate them. I do not say this in a demeaning tone. They do not know that the people they vote for are obstructing the legislative process.
Why does the RTC not understand that they are to blame for their inactivity? Perhaps. a light bulb will lead them overhead that they need to hire a person to tell them how to go about convincing the democrats to join their forces.
We need action and we are getting regrets and apathy!
I am not sure who anonymous is here (not enough guts to use your real name), but you are questioning the RTC, Republican Leaders and why we didn't do more...As a candidate on Team Stewart I am offended by that. I know that most of us worked our butts off and that the republican leadership was very helpful, encouraging and involved. If you are going to make comments like that, then step up and offer suggestions. like the old saying goes- If youre not part of the SOLUTION, youre part of the PROBLEM.

Sherwood said that taxpayers count on the council to ask hard questions about any mayor's proposals, but acknowledged, "I have felt there were times when the council has disagreed and done it in a disagreeable way." Sherwood said he's committed to communicating more with the mayor's office.
The fact that the council voted 11-4 against using civility for the next 2 years should be a preview to the childish games to come from these whacked out liberal nut jobs!

NEW BRITAIN — Republican Mayor Timothy Stewart and Democratic Common Council Majority Leader Phil Sherwood flung a few political arrows Friday while both maintained they want to preserve decorum even over differences.
The day after the first post-election council meeting where Sherwood urged the majority to keep a “respectful tone at all times” and Stewart insisted he won’t tolerate any incivility; a war of words erupted.
The mayor was quoted in The Hartford Courant stating that Sherwood is a “partisan hack” and a “carpetbagger.”
He said of the majority leader “I don’t like him and I don’t respect him — never did and never will.”
Sherwood, who grew up in New Hampshire and moved to New Britain, responded that Stewart’s remarks were “unbecoming of a chief elected official. But I hold no ill will.”
Asked about his comments, Stewart said he made them a week ago in campaign mode after winning his fourth term by only 171 votes. “I apologize for making those remarks,” Stewart said Friday, still holding, however, that the Democrats have never attempted to be bi-partisan. Stewart has been critical in the past of Democratic aldermen grilling city hall department heads.
Earlier in the week, Sherwood told the Herald “It was an honor to have the confidence of the people I work with expressed by giving me this added responsibility” referring to the Democratic caucus unanimously voting for him to be majority leader.
Elected for the first time in 2007, Sherwood initiated a disclosure statement for city officials that, while not appreciated by everyone, was passed and has been since praised as increasing the transparency of local government.
“Not even everyone in my own party was happy with that piece of local legislation,” Sherwood said. “But, I think they saw I was willing to work with everyone to come to a compromise that allowed the disclosure ordinance to go through for the good of the city.”
Although he and Stewart have been at odds, Sherwood said he hopes that as majority leader he can facilitate increased communication between the mayor’s office and the Common Council.
“I’ve noticed during the past two years that while we don’t always agree, the council and the mayor get along much better as long as the window of communication is open,” he said. “I intend to keep that window open.”
Craig Dangelo did a super job in running for the Alderman position in Ward 4. It isn't the RTC's fault that Sherwood won...the Sherwood pack pulled the wool over enough voter eyes to "show" them how "honest" he is. Get with the program, and come to the council meetings to see how idiotic Sherwood and friends act...like a bunch of kids acting like bullies.

Common Council Majority Leader Phil Sherwood says Mayor Timothy Stewart is being hypocritical to urge more civility in city government while publicly describing Sherwood as "a political hack."
Sherwood, who will lead the Democratic council for the next two years, said, "On the one hand he's calling for civility, on the other he's calling people names. I've never personally attacked him and I won't. I won't engage in that."
Stewart acknowledged his remarks came "in the heat of the moment" the morning after his election, but said he doesn't have to like Sherwood to work with him.
"I have to deal with him, I understand that," Stewart said Friday. "But I can work with people I don't care to break bread with."
The Republican mayor renewed his criticism of what he called partisanship by council Democrats: "They spent 35 minutes the other night debating what order they should vote in — and that's just the first meeting [of the newly elected council]."
Both political parties said they wanted an end to divisiveness after the Nov. 3. election. Sherwood said that just two days later, though, Stewart rebuffed his recommendation that council leaders meet more frequently with the mayor.
"When we don't communicate he trusts us less, and the council becomes more suspicious of him. Sunshine is the best disinfectant," Sherwood said. "But the first words out of his mouth were 'This is my meeting, you're here because I let you be here.' And he said instead of meeting biweekly, he's going to make it once a month."
Stewart has said that Democrats have used information from his pre-meeting briefings to plan strategy for blocking his initiatives.
Sherwood said council Democrats get unfairly portrayed as obstructionists simply for asking questions, and said he's committed to keep asking questions about city projects.
"The legislative body's responsibility is to watch over the public purse. I'll continue to ask questions and go out of my way to do so in a respectful tone. It's my obligation — and we shouldn't be attacked for asking questions," Sherwood said.
Stewart, who complained last year that council members were hostile to department heads and developers at council meetings, cautioned the council Thursday night that he intends to stop disrespectful or rude questions in midstream.
"I treat people with respect," he said. "But I'll gavel people down. I'm not going to take that any more."

Sherwood does ask questions..questions that are geared toward turning the tide against economic development, and insulting to highly potential investors in our business community.
Go back to New Hampshire where the entire state population is probably less then Hartford.

You could not be more right in your assessments of the current RTC leadership.
Paul Caver is a joke! He misses RTC meetings without telling anyone he won’t be at the meetings. He is never prepared and very disorganized. He constantly breaks the by-laws and hardly ever follows Roberts Rules of Order.
It is apparent that he lacks all leadership skills. He isn’t able to motivate anyone; He lacks basic organization skills, vision and drive.
Jamie is correct too. It is wrong to place blame without giving a suggestions on how to fix the problem. However as I read what Anonymous said, I couldn’t help but notice that Anonymous did suggest actions to correct the problem although it was subtle, get rid of Paul Carver! I couldn’t agree more!
If Jamie attended more of the RTC meetings himself, perhaps he too would understand.
"Carpetbagger": One who runs for political office in an area where he has not retained residence for very long.
"Carpetbagger": A contemptuous term used by southerners for northerners who came to the south and tried to gain political control
by pandering to the black vote.
"Political Hack" A politician that belongs to a clique that controls a political party for private rather than public means.

Maybe Mr. Sherwood should check the archives at the Herald to get the background on the Colonial Realty fiasco, and William Candelori's involvement in it...Maybe they don't hear about those things in New Hamspshire.
Mayor Stewart is not alone. I don't like or trust Phil Sherwood either, nor do many others out there.
HARD QUESTIONS? Have you ever heard Adam Platosz? What an idiot! And his Dem cohorts allow him to make a fool of himself and they laugh at him while he's doing it!
Yes, Adam P. is a laugh however he easily won against Alphonse Wright and Julie Swan who worked hard at their campaigns? How does this happen? Oh yea ACORN hard at work in our community gathering up voters for Tim O'Brien and teaching them to vote straight across the Democratic line. What do we get? Uninformed voters making all the decisions for the rest of us. Disgusting.
Maybe, if we had new leadership in the RTC, we can resolve the issue of Acorn. Insanity, according to Einstein is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results!

Attend the Republican Town Committee meetings, and voice your opinions...maybe you can persuade the members to change the Chairmanship.
No matter what way you cut it, Paul Carver is a better chairman of the GOP Town Committee than John MacNamara is of the Democratic Town Committee.
That is poor logic. Chavez is better than Castro. Does that make him a good leader. They are both terrible and so are the DTC and the RTC Chairmen. New Britain would be better off with a good old fashion Democrat as Chairman and a Republican with energy,vision and just plain interest which is lacking for the RTC.
Democrats win elections because the name of their party is derived from the word "democracy". It is as simple as that no more no less.
When voters arrive at the polls the democratic pollsters tell the people, "Vote Democratic" and guess what, most of the people do it like lambs to the slaughter.
