Letter to the Editor, New Britain Herald
It was a pleasure to read James Craven's (January 8) article about last week's meeting of the New Britain Common Council's Administration, Finance & Law Subcommittee. The persistent effort of Majority Leader Phil Sherwood and his three lackeys to oust the City's auditing firm – even if it cost $250,000 and exposed the City to a lawsuit – was stopped in its tracks by a bi-partisan group of two Democrats and three Republicans.
If Mr. Sherwood had the best interests of the City in mind he had a strange way of showing it at the committee meeting, ignoring the consequences of his actions while posturing about the sole authority of "this body" to choose the auditor. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed. The dissenting group included all three newly elected alderpersons on the subcommittee, which may indicate a shift toward rational decision-making at Council and subcommittee meetings after years of partisan bickering. I certainly hope so!

Don Naples letter to the editor is a good one...however, not only should he have mentioned Sherwood and his lackies by name, it would have been refreshing to name those who voted against the "4 mouseketeers" (4 rats?).
