State legislature candidates debate at Trinity - The New Britain Herald (newbritainherald.com)

Attendance for the local debate was low. Some of the key points that I took away from attending were:

1) The question regarding the police station in NB did not pertain to state issues and should not have been offered to debate.

2) Rep. Terycak is not concerned about the state budget issues. He explained that he is an optimist and we should cross bridges when we get to them. He also seemed to believe that the state would see a surplus next budget? You heard it here in NB, the state of CT is going to have extra money next year.

3) There were several questions regarding energy prices and alternative energy choices. While the democratic candidates support this including spending the money to research this, the republican candidates oppose spending the money. My personal feeling watching was, with so many people out of work and business so slow, many of us struggle to just pay our utility bills never mind investing in a new type of energy.

3) Mr. Griffin did keep the discussion on track regarding jobs and the exodus of business from CT due to high taxes and fees here in the State. Griffin pushed cuts to government spending and promotion of job creation through tax relief to businesses. Chris Carillo echoed the same encouraging tax cuts for business and job creation.
We heard none of that from the incumbents.

4) Mr Carillo a young man new to the political scene did arrive with statistics on state spending and continued to hammer home the need for government cuts and streamlined government to save taxpayers money.

5) Tim O'Brien did offer that cuts to middle management and alot of beauracracy at the state needed to be "looked at" he did not suggest layoffs however and did not touch on re-negotiating union contracts, I suspect because he is backed by every union. Instead he reminded voters that the state had just cut over 3,000 jobs by offering early retirement packages? You know those fat pension and benefit plans that we will all be paying for for the rest of our lives.

6) While the democratic encumbents were more seasoned to answer questions and more comfortable, it was apparent that they are also very comfortable with the status quo here in CT and electing them will be the same old, same old.

7) I had the pleasure of sitting in front of DeFronzo and Gerogsian who were not debating. The heckled the republican candidates the entire time. Both made very rude comments about Mr. Griffin and Mr. Carillo. At one point I heard the statement "why don't you just die" and then also "I hope you don't get sick" regarding socialized healthcare. and Mr. Carillo. I learned more about the character of those two clowns than I needed to know. Very immature.

8) Tim O'Brien is still trying to work on Property Tax Reform through socialized government, meaning spread the wealth around. Our wealthier suburbs still have not caught on to forking over their money.

Sally: Good job. Your written report was better than mind especially making the two Democrat incumbents look like jerks with their heckling the Republican participants during the debate.

I did submit a relative question to the League of Women Voters. My question was:

With revenue decreasing to the state budget over this extended recession, how would you propose to continue to provide state services, honor union contract pay increases and benefits without effecting taxes?

My question was not read.

THE STATE IS GOING TO HAVE A SURPLUS NEXT YEAR ONLY IF THE VOTERS WAKE UP AND ELECT TOM FOLEY GOVERNOR, AND ALSO VOTE OUT RADICAL EXTREMISTS LIKE TERCYAK, O'BRIEN, DEFRONZO, AND MOST OF THE REST OF THE DEMOCRATS IN THE LEGISLATURE WHO CARE MORE ABOUT GIVING OUR MONEY AWAY TO SPECIAL INTERESTS THAN THEY DO ABOUT MANAGING THE STATE RESPONSIBLY.

UNTIL THEN WE WILL CONTINUE TO RANK 50TH AS THE STATE WITH WORST FINANCIAL CONDITION IN THE NATION.

The Democrats in the legislature are the problem. We will never fix the financial mess the state is in until we get rid of the socialist Democrats and replace them with fiscally responsible Republicans or even Tea Party candidates.
