CHRIS POWELL: Been there, done that, got 20 years of decline: Middletown Press

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Perhaps Chris Powell should be governor as he demonstrates he understands the cause of Connecticut's insolvency better than the real governor does. At least maybe he can help Dan Malloy find his Governor's owner's manual?

HARTFORD LOB : Connecticut Gov. Wants 50% Increase in Boat Sales Tax - 02/23/2011...

Connecticut's new governor, Dan Malloy, wasn't in office more than six weeks when he proposed to raise the state's sales tax on a few luxury items, including boats over $100,000, by 50%. The proposed new luxury sales tax would go to 9% from 6%.

Perhaps Gov. Malloy wasn't paying attention when the 1991 federal 10% luxury sales tax on new boats over $100k nearly wiped out the boating industry in the U.S., costing the loss of several hundred thousand jobs...jobs...jobs...jobs...jobs?

These were jobs which never came back even after repeal! Get this: right next door to Connecticut is Rhode Island which has NO sales tax on boats!

One of the very few things worth reading in The Herald is any column or article written by Chris Powell of the JI in Manchester.

Mr. Powell, "You da Man."

I guess Danny Boy didn't learn from history.

Connecticut used to have a repressive boat tax, and during those days, about 99% of all boats on Connecticut waterways had Delaware registries. The tax was eliminated and replaced with a smaller state surcharge (based on boat length) to get boat owners to actually register their boats here in Connecticut.

This will do little more than cause a mass exodus of boats to Wilmington Delaware similar to Senator Kerry registering his $5 million yacht in Rhode Island to avoid $70,000 a year in repressive Massachusetts boat taxes!

Kerry also had his repairs done in Rhode Island where he was able to save several thousand dollars in Massachusetts State sales tax because they also tax boat repairs in Mass--another repressive move Danno is planning.

I guess Danno is unable to learn from the leaders of his own party who flee state lines to avoid similar socialist measures that they love to force upon the rest of us.

Typical liberal, attacks a Governor like Christie who is fixing his state's problems, while Malloy is pushing a liberal extremist agenda that is sure to take Connecticut off a cliff.

Chris Powell was a guest today on John Rowland's talk show. Powell described what he sees as a division forming in America between the states that are government controlled and the states where the private sector is dominant. Powell said that if you are going to stay in a state like Connecticut, you are going to have to accept that the majority of your income is going to be seized by the state because the state is the only thing that matters. Powell said if you want your freedoms, you will have to move to a state where the private sector is dominant, where taxes are low and government is small--in other words the free America most of us remember. Powell did say that if you stay in Connecticut, you will need to learn to accept socialism.
