Board of Education Fiasco!

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Mary Beth Iacobelli, Associate Superintendent of schools, proposal in teaching the same curriculum at all levels or grades in all the New Britain Schools has mystified many parents knowing that all children have varied learning abilities.

Some children have slow learning abilities and others have language barriers causing further problems in implementation of this plan.

When a school board member, Erin Stewart, was asked by a local newspaper reporter what would happen if this plan doesn't work? The response came from the associate superintendent and not the board member herself.

Does this mean our elected officials, as Ms. Stewart, are to remain speechless throughout their tenure and not be quoted at meetings or worst in the local papers?

Good strong arm tactics control Mary Beth.

Doesn't this assistant superintendent live and pay taxes in West Hartford, and if so what incentive does she have to insure that New Britain's taxpayers receive the highest value for their taxpayer dollars?

Frank,in the first place Erin was not asked by a local newspaper she asked the question herself, and it was perfectly responsible question. Mary Beths answer was "we will make it work". The BOE has been working for a few years to get the same curriculum taught in all the schools (k to 5--6 to 8 ) for a perfectly good reason. We have a very mobile society with students ( and teachers )going between Schools. Simply any student or teacher can go anywhere in the system and pick up where they left off. It also means that in workshops all teachers will be working together. We are trying to get some continuity.

I think it is a good plan amd ERIN asked a good question, she was not getting shut out

When will they finally get around to talking about school vouchers as a way to cut the budget? Why are they so afraid to let parents and not worthless self-serving bureaucrats decide what school their children can attend?

I'll bet if you asked a Democrat, this is George Bush's fault too!
