NB-RTC Chaiman's comments Fits the Council's Inactions

Paul Carver has put into words, in today's New Britain Herald, what I have been citing for some time and he has described the Council's inaction very well!
"Appropriate money, but take no action on legislation. Criticize the mayor's budget,but take no action on offering alternatives or improvements. Propose ethics rules, but take no action when Violations occur. Tax, but take no action to pay your own taxes."

OPEN FORUM NUMER EIGHT
IT HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME SINCE WE HAVE HAD AN OPEN FORUM FOR THE RESIDENTS TO VENT THEIR PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING WITH OUR CITY GOVERNMENT.
IT IS ALSO A PLACE FOR THE RESIDENTS TO TELL THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT CURRENT POLITICAL ISSUES IN OUR CITY.
ESPECIALLY WITH THE RECENT ADVENT OF THE UN-PAID CAR TAXES, BY SOME OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, CURRENTLY SERVING ON THE CITY COUNCIL.

Alderman Catanzaro Showed No Remorse For His Unpaid Taxes.

Alderman Paul Catanzaro never attempted to take a personal minute before the beginning of the council meeting, last night, to express his apology for not paying his taxes on time.
It was reported in Today’s Herald the reason he didn’t make any comment “because he felt the people who elected him knew he would pay the bill.”
This comment coming from an elected official of our city is inexcusable since the people that elected him to represent them are required to pay their taxes in a timely fashion “OR ELSE” so quite frankly the electorate doesn’t understand why an official serving on the council could make such ridicules statement.
Hopefully, the electorate will remember the ethics violations you committed along with this lack of remorse you displayed before the city electorate last night.

OBAMA'S LEAP TO SOCIALISM

President Obama showed his hand this week when The New York Times wrote that he is considering converting the stock the government owns in our country's banks from preferred stock, which it now holds, to common stock.
This seemingly insignificant change is momentous. It means that the federal government will control all of the major banks and financial institutions in the nation. It means socialism.
The Times dutifully dressed up the Obama plan as a way to avoid asking Congress for more money for failing banks. But the implications of the proposal are obvious to anyone who cares to look.
When the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) intervention was first outlined by the Bush administration, it did not call for any transfer of stock, of any sort, to the government. The Democrats demanded, as a price for their support, that the taxpayers "get something back" for the money they were lending to the banks. House Republicans, wise to what was going on, rejected the administration's proposal and sought, instead, to provide insurance to banks, rather than outright cash. Their plan would, of course, not involve any transfer of stock. But Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) undercut his own party's conservatives and went along with the Democratic plan, ensuring its passage.
But to avoid the issue of a potential for government control of the banks, everybody agreed that the stock the feds would take back in return for their money would be preferred stock, not common stock. "Preferred" means that these stockholders get the first crack at dividends, but only common stockholders can actually vote on company management or policy. Now, by changing this fundamental element of the TARP plan, Obama will give Washington a voting majority among the common stockholders of these banks and other financial institutions. The almost 500 companies receiving TARP money will be, in effect, run by Washington.
And whoever controls the banks controls the credit and, therefore, the economy. That's called socialism.
Obama is dressing up the idea of the switch to common stock by noting that the conversion would provide the banks with capital they could use without a further taxpayer appropriation. While this is true, it flies in the face of the fact that an increasing number of big banks and brokerage houses are clamoring to give back the TARP money. Goldman-Sachs, for example, wants to buy back its freedom, as do many banks. Even AIG is selling off assets to dig its way out from under federal control. The reason, of course, is that company executives do not like the restrictions on executive pay and compensation that come with TARP money. It is for this reason that Chrysler Motors refused TARP funds.
With bank profits up and financial institutions trying to give back their money, there is no need for the conversion of the government stock from preferred to common -- except to advance the political socialist agenda of this administration.
Meanwhile, to keep its leverage over the economy intact, the Obama administration is refusing to let banks and other companies give back the TARP money until they pass a financial "stress test." Nominally, the government justifies this procedure by saying that it does not want companies to become fully private prematurely and then need more help later on. But don't believe it. They want to keep the TARP money in the banks so they can have a reason and rationale to control them.
The Times story did not influence the dialogue of the day. People were much more concerned with the death of 21 horses at a polo match. Much as we will miss these noble animals, we will miss our economic freedom more.

University of Conn.Women's Basketball champions
Last Sunday held the celebration parade for The University of Connecticut Women’s basketball championship.
Ct. Governor Rell with Lt. Governor Fedele was joined by the Connecticut Foot Guard with its marching band.
The Women’s team deserves all the adulation's for their long hard fought basketball season.
Nb Alderman's "Carpetbagger"

John McNamara, Democratic town chairman, viciously attacked the Republican Minority Leader Lou Salvio in yesterday's New Britain Herald for his espousing and asserting that a current Democratic Alderman allegedly is a “Carpetbagger.”
Alderman’s Salvio’s claims are referring to a Democratic Alderman currently residing out of town while serving some three an one half years as a city councilman. Rumors have it that he is planning to move into town in order legalize his upcoming campaign this November.
The major question is why did the DTC chairman allow this charade to last all this time by allowing him to use his parent’s address that is in New Britain? Additionally, as usual no word from, Mr. Ethics Alderman Sherwood, like with the four tax Scofflaws that currently sit on the Democratic side of the council.
This unnamed Alderman should join the scofflaws since he doesn’t pay any vehicle taxes to the city he represents.
His name will remain silent unless the Chairman or the Alderman wishes to make it public however, should the media ask me who it involves I would be pressed to answer their question accurately.

THE FOUR TAX SCOFFLAWS OF NEW BRITAIN

EDITORIAL!
There have been interesting reactions from the public regarding NB Common Council scofflaws, Catanzaro, Centeno, Rocha and Collins. Perhaps none were more interesting than the comments from Alderman Phil Sherwood and those from the scofflaws themselves. Though he has no trouble criticizing Republicans with his hidebound comments, Sherwood was very understanding regarding his Democratic colleagues and refused to “judge” them. Remember, a couple of months ago, Sherwood was at the forefront of wanting to know about who had not paid taxes to the city. Then he abruptly put that issue aside and was victimized in my blog.
Alderwoman Collins could not be reached for comments while Rocha and Catanzaro expressed remorse for their actions with a promise to make everything right. Such “noblesse oblige”; I’m impressed!
On the other hand, the responses from the Centeno s were not so impressive, most of them centering on the ” …none of your business…” category. I agree that personal, familial financial arrangements are none of the public’s business. In this case however the public needs to know if public officials, in this case, Common Council members and their immediate families are doing what they expect others to do, namely, pay their taxes. Both Centeno and his wife work for the NB School Dept.
Common Council members are the city’s local legislators; they should uphold the ordinances that they create, the same behavior they expect from all NB citizens. We should not have to wait for them to pay their taxes.

SHOULD 13 ALDERMEN BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE? On February 25, in direct violation of the city charter, Alderman Catanzaro spoke against and then voted to reject the bipartisan, unanimous ethics commission ruling which was issued against him by the commission.
Both speaking on and voting on an Alderman’s own issue are both separate violations of the same charter section that provides the penalty of expulsion from the council as the punishment for violation of that section.
Since the other Aldermen swore an oath to uphold the charter of the City of New Britain, does this not violate the oath of their office? Remember this is a blatant violation of the city charter that was committed in their presence, and not only did each of them witness the offense, they participated in it by joining Alderman Catanzaro in voting to reject the unanimous finding of the ethics commission.
Even more incongruous, is that the self proclaimed champion of ethics, Alderman Sherwood, not only witnessed this outrageous defiance of the charter, but also joined his fellow aldermen in voting to ignore the unanimous decision of the city’s ethics commission.
What do you, as a voter, a taxpayer, or a citizen think of this unethical behavior by the council?

One thing we all know for sure is that the Democrats on the city council love to spend other people’s money! They love to find ways to raise your taxes and ways to give your hard earned money away to other people, people that they seem to believe deserve your money more than you do, even though you worked hard to earn it. One thing at least four of them doesn’t seem to like doing is paying their own taxes!
The four tax delinquents shown above are on the tax collector’s delinquency list for motor vehicles. Could this be why they were so opposed to the plate finder system that the Chief of Police is using to catch citizens who have delinquent taxes on their cars? Maybe they were afraid of the embarrassment involved in getting caught by the police department’s new plate finder vehicle, so they opposed such a valuable tool that was badly needed to potentially collect millions in unpaid taxes, just to avoid the public finding out that they don’t pay their own taxes.
When your aldermen, who are sworn to uphold the law, don’t pay their taxes, then why should anyone else pay theirs? Maybe that is a question we should all ask these four on Election Day?
Hartford Joins more than 600 National Tea Parties
More than 4,000 people gathered today at the Connecticut State Capitol, joining more than 600 protests in cities across the country.
The tea parties are in protest of the out of control spending by the federal, state and yes even local governments—ridiculous out of control spending of money that we just can’t afford to spend. Pictured is Chris Cassone performing his new song “Take Our Country Back” which he wrote after being inspired by Glenn Beck’s 912 Project. One thing was certain from the crowd today: that the movement to take back control of our country is alive and well, and growing stronger every day.
For example, Susan Kniep, President of the Federation of Connecticut Taxpayers Associations spoke on the need to become more active at all levels of government. She urged everyone to attend their local council meetings and get involved and speak out when the town councils are trying to ram through those municipal budgets, especially when they are trying to increase municipal spending and raise your taxes! The budget process is currently underway here in New Britain, so what better time could there be to get involved?

East Hartford schools to get $3.8 million in federal funds, What will New Britain Get; Rep. Murphy?
Congressman John Larson just secured $3.8 million in federal funding for the East Hartford School system. If I understand the situation in New Britain correctly, our school board is short about $2 million in funding for this year's budget. Where was Congressman Murphy to get similar funding for New Britain? With the differences in population, Congressman Murphy should have been able to secure at least $7 million for New Britain's school system. Instead, like usual, we get nothing and have to raise your taxes to find the needed funding.
