THE DEMOCRATIC BUDGET BLAME GAME!

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Even though Alderman Carlozzi had voted no for the O’Brien Budget, as noted by this editor’s past editorial, he had just left the Democratic caucus and knew how the Democrats were going to vote.
The most outrageous acts by the Democrats is their attempt in trying to place the blame on Tim Stewart’s administration when in reality Trueworthy and his Democratic gang approved Obrien’s phony budget income stream causing the City’s property owners in their opposing O’Brien’s re-election bid.
But Aldermen Trueworthy, DeFronzo, & Bielinski continue on with their blaming the Stewart administration for O’Brien’s income budget design which they approved with their common council votes.
When the TANS proposal was made to the council Aldermen Trueworthy & DeFronzo were in disbelief that the state would be taking over our city financial operations like happened to Waterbury and Bridgeport.
With all that said the Democrats have given our new Mayor Erin Stewart a $33,000,000 fiscal 2015 budget hole for her to cut jobs and the city managers budget request.
Thanks to the Democrats, past approvals, our city department managers and directors are faced in selecting employees whom they like for the layoff recommendation list, for our Mayor to ponder.

JOHN McNamara NBTC CHAIR TOUTS TRUWORTHY’S $10.10 RESOLUTION..

Unanimous vote in committee and he was surprised to hear opposition on the Council floor. “Are we really telling people we can’t afford paying them 50 cents more an hour?” asked Carlozzi, noting that the state minimum goes to $9.60 the year after next and won’t reach  $10.10 until 2017.  City officials estimate the impact of $10.10 for eligible employees would be somewhere north of $80,000. But Carlozzi, who delivered a budget-cutting soliloquy on ways to avoid tax hikes at the start of the meeting, insisted that even the most austere municipal budget should find room for half a buck an hour more for entry-level wages in city jobs.  Approximately 160 employees, part and full-time, would be covered by the new minimum.
“Democrat” Daniel Salerno, a member of the Council’s Republican caucus, and Minority Leader Jamie Giantonio, led the opposition to the measure on jurisdictional and fiscal grounds.  Salerno, being a good soldier for the Stewart Administration, argued minimum and living wages are not the concern of elected officials in local government.  Giantonio, noting the precarious financial condition of the budget, indicated that the city could use the money for other things instead of upping the minimum for a limited number of city employees a year ahead of the state mandated wage policy.
The GOP Aldermen, wanting to have it both ways, quickly endorsed “living wages” that exceed $10.10 in theory but fell back on familiar arguments used whenever proposals to have minimums catch up with the cost of living: it’ll kill jobs and drive costs up for consumers (taxpayers).
Alderman Salerno makes a good point: if Congress, specifically the GOP House was doing its job to adjust the $7.25 federal wage, neither city nor state would need to debate the issue.  The $10.10 an hour would already be in the calculations for the current budget let alone next year’s or the year after that.  The Common Council, however, did the right thing in passing more than a feel good resolution backing state and federal action after the Obama visit.  The need for constrained spending and austerity in municipal budgets is undeniable. But paying an additional 50 cents per hour for the least paid among city workers is a step toward fairness and away from the excuses and myths that always come from opponents.  Excuses and myths are holding the minimum to $7.25 nationally but not in Connecticut nor New Britain.
Chairman McNamara should realize the political reality that a resolution must await a newly elected council membership before any advance action can be taken in advancing the raising of the minimum wage before the US Government does.   Only then can it happen.
One can only assume that the DTC Chairman is apparently attempting to make the current Democratic council membership appear that they have approved $10.10 minimum wage a year in advance but failed in their process.
The finance director has stated the cost, if plausible, would have cost and approximate $85,000.
The Mayor according to the media is ignoring the common council’s resolution.
Thankfully, our high school and the community college students are still able to work for the Parks and Recreation this summer at the current minimum rates.
It is amazing that Mr. McNamara, a financial business director for Hartford’s Community college for pushing his stance for the wage increase to happen immediately limiting the student’s ability fine summer work at our various towns and cities in Conn.

Mayor Stewart And The School Superintendent at Odds Where to Meet!

The issue is over the one time budget grant allocated to the school district by former Mayor Timothy O’Brien for a sum of 4.6 million dollars.
The issue surfaced when the Mayor’s office refused to give the school board  4.4 million dollars with the mayor claiming the money should have gone into the grant fund account and not into the general fund.
Local media reported that the Mayor has attempted to set up a meeting with the officials of the School Department but the report continues with Mr. Cooper stating he has been summoned to the principal’s office but never a mayor’s office.
Well Erin stick to your guns because if you give in it will cost the taxes payers over 9 mills rather than the 4.8 mills you have proposed.

Democratic common council leadership faulters?

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

After the Triad of the amigos of the New Britain Council subsequent to their leader's announcement  how he is going to vote with only three aldermen, including himself, following his dictates.   Which would have caused a state takeover of our city government if the rest of the Democratic Aldermen had followed their leader's demands .

After Mayor Erin Stewart presented her Power point presentation pointing out how our financial crisis is for real; the same leadership made a passionate plea to move on with the $10.10 per hour one year earlier than that of the state mandate and  again forewarned his Democrat followers and they obeyed to his dictates like sheep lead to slaughter and will be remembered for their acts come election day in New Britain.
A local media asked in its headline “ Did the Mayor’s presentation go unheard?
Everybody is concerned with the corruption in Connecticut such as in the Donavan matter; when they should be really concerned with the possible corruption within the Democratic common council membership with their not voting in the best interest of city’s taxpayers.

OBAMACARE STRAINS TAX ENFORCEMENT

Here’s one thing that might improve ObamaCare’s popularity - AP: “As millions of Americans race to meet Tuesday’s tax deadline, their chances of getting audited are lower than they have been in years. Budget cuts and new responsibilities are straining the Internal Revenue Service’s ability to police tax returns. This year, the IRS will have fewer agents auditing returns than at any time since at least the 1980s. Taxpayer services are suffering, too, with millions of phone calls to the IRS going unanswered...Last year, the IRS audited less than 1 percent of all returns from individuals, the lowest rate since 2005…The IRS also is implementing large parts of President Obama’s health law, including enforcing the mandate that most people get health insurance.”

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

NBCJ,  Editorial

Common Council Members addresses Mayor Stewart’s Budget Proposal.

Alderman Carlozzi proposed some very good ideas with his proposing to have the school district and city consolidating their health plans by having under the same health care  plan which would save millions of dollars he concluded.
He added to stop paying the city employees with paper checks on a weekly basis but to pay bi-weekly electronically which would save millions in labor in producing the paper checks.
He also added pooling the city vehicles on a sign out and sign in basis which is interfering with the department heads making and setting their own policies within their own departments.
The Police,& fire chiefs are capable to determine who are on call twenty four seven within their departments who must have their city vehicles 24/7.    As well as the city Building Department for the inspectors that are subject to 24-7 on call status.  I am sure the Health department may also have the same status as well.
The Common Council membership should not attempt to micromanage City Departments but place their trust in their department heads they have selected to make those calls.

If a passed resolution deserves a Mayor’s veto this is the one that should first on her list in order to provide summer work for our youth.

Mayor Stewart’s power point budget presentation for year 2015

With frankness and sincerity she pointed out that our credit card is carrying a 19 million dollar debit with the following year facing a 33 million dollar debt possibly causing a bond rating downgrade for the City of New Britain.

She proposed reducing 28 positions at city hall and additionally reduced two employees in her office which will be replaced with volunteers to help with the management of her office needs.    She also asked that the retirees to come and work for 19.5 hours per week for the purpose of helping to train their successors.
She also proposed raising the parking fees in our garages and increasing fines without indicating the amount to be charged.   With all her fine negotiations with all the unions to make her proposal viable we are still facing a tax increase of 4.88 mills as city taxpayers.   The Mayor did admitted she had to make the hard decisions without being concerned with her re-election possibilities but her main concern was what was best for the residents.
The mayor displayed her leadership capabilities throughout Her presentation.
This matter will have a public hearing and will subsequently be sent to the common council for their input and approval for the upcoming annual budget.

His Promise to "Control Taxes and runaway spending and making job growth and economic a property with tax reform."     Is exactly what we have not seen from his opponent’s tenure.

The Mayor with her 2014-2015 budget presentation she has indicated her distain to the recommendation of her finance board of adding15 mills to a local media reflecting and stating that it would mean that the average taxpayer would see annual increase of $2,200 per household.
By her intending to utilize her rainy day fund provided by the “Tans funding” and proposing to using $12,500,000  of that fund in order to preventing tax increases for the city’s taxpayers.
With that in mind the common council membership will have to approve her recommendations and let us not experience a second round of the TANS meeting of three hours again.

Ban guns on military bases ordered by Former President Clinton

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

As usual, the liberal drive by media is failing to tell the public the whole story about the ban of guns on military bases.  With a second shooting incident at Fort Hood, the public deserves to be reminded who caused this problem in the first place:

For the first 200+ years of our history, military members were allowed to carry whatever they wanted on military bases and with guns everywhere on every base, there was never any kind of mass shooting like has now unfortunately become commonplace under a total gun ban. Does anyone remember a mass shooting on a military base before the Clinton gun ban? You won't because there was never one before the gun ban.

In March 1993, President Bill Clinton ordered a ban of all guns on military bases not because of any problem that needed to be addressed, but apparently because he is simply a typical gun hating liberal Democrat. "Among President Clinton’s first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases. In March 1993, the Army imposed regulations forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection. (Washington Times 11/11/09).

Interestingly enough, Clinton was such a gun hating liberal, that disarming the military is reported as one of the first things Clinton did when he took office.  Clearly nothing is of more importance to a liberal extremist Democrat than to ban guns any way possible, otherwise with no history of problems on military bases, why was this among his highest priorities as soon as he was sworn into office?

If you Google mass shootings on military bases, you will find there have been 23 mass shootings on American military bases. The first one was in 1994, one year after the total gun ban went into place and to date there have been a total of 23. Just like in Chicago, gun bans simply cause mass carnage because only criminals can have guns and the innocent victims are powerless to defend themselves. Clearly the best way to respond to this phenomena of mass shootings on our military bases would be to end the Clinton gun ban and once again allow our military members their Constitutional rights to defend themselves. These soldiers deserve to be treated better after risking their lives for the safety of our nation. How many more of them must die simply because Democrats are pushing their liberal gun hating agenda?

Are you serious? Letter appears in Texas paper Written by a Ct. Resident

Are you really considering turning your state over to the Democrats?
I live in a state that has been ruled by Democrats for over 60 years (and it happens to be right next door to Wendy's native Rhode Island that has been just as destroyed by Democrats). Here are a few things you can expect if Texas becomes a blue state as the Democrats are trying so hard to accomplish (why do you think that liberal extremists from New York and California are pumping millions of dollars into Wendy's campaign coffers?):
Higher taxes in every category to pay for all the free stuff Democrats love to give away with other people's money (my Democrat state has the highest taxes on everything).
State income taxes (again to pay for all the free stuff)
State business income taxes
Free abortions for every women who wants one paid for by state taxpayers
Abortions for school children without parental consent or even parental knowledge that their 12 year old daughter was ever pregnant because abortion is the gem of the Democrats socialist utopia .
Gay marriage and laws forcing religious institutions to provide benefits to gay couples and perform gay marriages against their religious beliefs.
Outlawing guns and gun ownership because there is nothing Democrats as a group despise more than guns.
Liberal judges who are soft on crime and never send anyone to prison no matter how many times they are convicted of serious and dangerous felonies because Democrats don't believe in prison no matter how dangerous the criminal is
Repeal of the Death Penalty because they are always against killing viscous murderers but always seem to be OK with killing innocent unborn babies or even babies born alive--also known as "late term abortions" in liberal lingo.
Legalizing marijuana and taxing the crap out of it to fund even more free stuff to give away
Increases in every kind of welfare program to the point where there is no incentive to ever work again and every incentive to sit home and live free off of the taxpayers because everyone deserves their fair share of your wealth
Giving illegal aliens the right to vote so they can vote for Democrats
Forced unionization so that you are forced to belong to a union and pay their dues as a condition of employment and the union can in turn donate millions of dollars taken from you and other workers by force to donate to the political campaigns of Democrats.
More and more regulations because Democrats always know better than you how you should live your life.
You see it is not about this particular or any individual candidate. It is a question of whether or not you want to give Democrats control of your state. If the changes I described here are your vision for the future of Texas, then by all means vote for every Democrat in the next election. If you doubt me, then just take a look at all the states that Democrats have already destroyed with their socialism and ask yourself if that is what you want for your Texas?

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Governor Malloy said Tuesday he called on CBS, the owner of WTIC AM radio to remove Rowland from the air. A spokesperson for WTIC issued a statement saying they are monitoring the situation closely.
It is obvious he has proven himself to be a socialist dictator attempting to control the local media like WTIC radio.   It is sad but true; that dictators always control the media and Malloy is not any different.
He has recently announced his bid for re-election for the Governor’s seat and the media is confusing the voting public with the Foley name when in reality it is not the Foley that is running against him that is involved with former Governor Roland.
But, the liberal media will continue to mention the Foley name with their adverse slant.
