State Representative Announces Exploratory Committee

During a news conference held at the Italian Fraternal Society on Monroe Street in New Britain, State Representative Tim O’Brien has made his official announcement that he is planning to establish exploratory committee in order to evaluate a feasibility study committee to ponder his potential in running for the office of Mayor in the upcoming election and does plan to seek the advice of all the residents throughout the city before concluding his decision.

He is considered to be on the liberal side, however; he is also known for listening to the moderate side of the issues and many times does support their viewpoint.

Unlike so many other politicians, at least Representative O'Brien is willing to listen and consider opposing views.

Alderman Salvio Speaks Out On Ethics

3/13/09

The Herald: Letters to Editor

Today?s Herald (3/13), carried an article regarding the passage of a resolution at the Common Council meeting of, 3/11/09. The resolution as I see it added some redundant language to the City?s ethics ordinance and at least one, punitive measure targeting Republicans and possibly protective of a Democrat alderman. In addition, I believe the language is discriminatory.

In his introductory remarks explaining the resolution, the author, Democrat Phil Sherwood explained ? and I paraphrase ? that (a) New Britain electors want to know, ?what we?re up to? when we run for office and (b) ?do we have something to hide.? These statements are ridiculous because, (a) neither is required as a prerequisite in the rules governing running for office and (b) the resolution also targets some individuals who are not elected, e.g., directors and department heads.

People are vetted before they run for office or before they are hired. One of the requirements for running for elective office is that one lives in town. To ask what other properties someone may own in town other than their ?principal residence? is simply a smokescreen designed to protect someone from full disclosure about their principal residence.

Phil Sherwood has introduced and had passed two pieces of municipal legislation- not one of which has had a positive outcome - since joining the Council. One, an FOI fiasco ? redundant stuff from state statutes - that ended up costing the police department needed revenues and this second fiasco which is largely an invasion of privacy. How did he do it? Numbers. There are 13 Democrats on the Common Council. In addition and since 2003, whenever a Democrat Council member has been shown to violate the city?s ethics ordinances, not one has received so much as a reprimand. There have been serious violations of the City Charter as well as violations of our Ethics Ordinances.

Here?s the record; 2003-05 Council, 15 Dems, 0 Republicans; 2005-07 Council, 12 Dems, 3 Republicans; 2007 ?09 Council, 13 Dems, 2 Republicans. Any questions?

New Britain's Unique' Men's & Ladies Hair Style Salon

Mrs. Rosa Rosado started her new Barber shop at the Szczesny garage located on Bank Street, New Britain some 12 years ago. I started to utilize her barber shop some eleven years ago.

As a tenant of the city of New Britain she encountered numerous water leaks and filed numerous complaints to the city property manager which fell on deaf ears.

With my being customer I went to seek help from the city’s former Mayor Lucian Pawlak which also fell on deaf ears.

This came to me as a sorrowful surprise since I was involved in the mayor’s two political campaigns. What an awful feeling of having been used politically for his campaign purposes.

Sadly Rosa was forced to move her shop, Rosa’s Hair Quarters to 88 Bingham Street, New Britain which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Her customers followed her, as I did, and her business experienced a 50 per cent increase immediately.

She graduated as a hair stylist at the Newington Hair design school on Christian Lane 12 years ago and who are no longer in business.

She does thank the city’s inequities in providing proper service by its property manager which lead to her new found financial success.

She not only provides men’s hair cuts but also does ladies excellent hair styles.

Bingham Street is diagonally across the street from Beckman’s Garage located at 125 East Street New Britain and also a few city blocks away from the well known Paradise Restaurant also located on East Street, New Britain.

City's Freshman Alderpersons Ethics Rouse

The four freshmen alderpersons headed by Alderman Phil Sherwood, touted their work on an ethics proclamation that was passed by the city Council at its last meeting.

The passage of these new ethics rules serves as an insult to the citizenry of our great city since no action was taken in starting an action for removal of their greatest ethics offender--Alderman Paul Catanzaro.

In the upcoming election, the voters need to remember how these Aldermen failed to perform their sworn duty as mandated by the city charter.

We need elected representatives who will enforce the law and most importantly who will obey the law.

One resignation by Alderman Catanzaro & one more to go!

As of last Monday Alderman Paul Catanzaro resigned his post as Chairperson of the HRA Commission and or agency which exemplifies that he has one more resignation although the first resignation was a tearful one as explained to me.

Now we have one more resignation to be completed by the Alderman and that is his resignation from the city council for his infamous l3-2 vote on his ethics commission findings which violated the City Charter, section 4-7: as follows: No member of the Common Council shall be heard to speak upon, nor shall be allowed to vote upon, nor shall be appointed a member of any committee to consider, any matter in which the member has a direct pecuniary interest.

Any such violation of this provision shall be grounds for expulsion of any member violating the same………

This incident was on tape and the violation demands an immediate resignation without further consideration.

UCHC India's Tapestry Monks

A great surprise Monks from India of the Comantaen order making a tapestry formed from the chemicals they used to make the very colorful designs and that system is called Lerrimowelk. They were also there selling many of their products they brought with them from Uenc India.

It was difficult to determine if the finish product was being purchased by the University of Connecticut or by some benefactor. Should it be placed on display on some future date it should be a site for you and your members of your family to examine.

Bozek the "Republicrat"

This is a new law and the people there are trying to prove that they were on top of things,” he said, adding that he did not feel unfairly treated. “There might have been things that I might have done differently.”

According to Joan Andrews, director of legal affairs and enforcement for the SEEC, Bozek, Gary Zeil and Thomas Evanko were individually cited for improper attribution of solicitations, improper reporting of expenses, accepting a contribution from a member of a lobbyist’s household, and making an illegal contribution.

In Bozek’s case, the SEEC found he had failed to provide an attribution line with a mailing asking for campaign contributions; that there was a failure to report a campaign expenditure from personal funds, and that he solicited and obtained a $25 contribution from the spouse of a lobbyist.

“That line is to allow the reader to evaluate the message,” Andrews explained.

Zeil, who served as treasurer on Bozek’s campaign, was fined $800 for several violations, including depositing and not immediately returning a contribution from Evanko, even though Evanko had communicated that his wife, Ann Hogan, was a registered in-house communicator lobbyist for Yale New Haven Health System.

The investigation also found against Evanko, even though there was no evidence that he knew he was making an illegal contribution. He was fined $100.

Bozek, a Democrat who ran on the Republican ticket when no other candidates stepped forward, had lost his state senate seat to DeFronzo in 2002.

McNamara said he brought the complaint in October 2008 after seeing the Bozek campaign mailer.

“The new campaign finance law and citizen’s elections program worked very well across the state last year, including New Britain,” McNamara said. “I feel it’s important that everyone involved in the process follow the rules in a system that keeps the undue influence of money out of the politics in state races.”

Andrews reported that all fines had been paid by the respondents.

Chinese/Asian Delight in New Britain

Two partners: Kwok & Cheng decided to take over an old pancake house location on West Main Street back in l985.

This was during the President Regan tax cuts which helped make it a workable deal.

In l986 the old site was transformed into what is now the most respectable Chinese/Asian restaurant throughout Connecticut, Western Mass, and New York State and is located at 597 West Main Street, New Britain, Conn.

Many dignitaries from everywhere have made a point to eat here along with many members of the state legislature, Governors, Congressional leaders and many famous business leaders from all types of enterprises--many of whom were happy to autograph their picture which was placed on the entrance wall.

So many of these VIP's have autographed photos and letters, that the entryway to the restaurant has become a makeshift museum of who's who of Connecticut and beyond.

As for the quality of the food nothing can compare to the great food that is delivered to your table by a well dressed waiter in jacket and tie.

If you have not yet tried this restaurant, you are missing out on a true award winning culinary delight located right here in our very own New Britain.

Make sure to call for reservations, especially on weekends, as they book up fast.

Take-out orders are also available.

New Proposal of The Ethics Odinance For New Britain

Alderman Sherwood has pointed out to me the new ethics proposal has eliminated Board and commissions from having to file a financial status report.

This change will apply only to the elected officials who will be required to make such fillings.

Fascism--Alive and Well in New Britain

A Sad Day for New Britain

The ethics commission of the city of New Britain found Aldermen Catanzaro sufficiently guilty enough to recommend to the city council that a reprimand was in order.

The council meeting started off with the party’s head guru ‘little Mac” advising the council to vote down the recommendation of the Ethics commission based solely on the power trip of the “untouchables.”

What is an alderman to do?

The head guru is none other than John McNamara-Chairman of the Democratic Party of New Britain (Little Mac)-who endorses all the Democratic aldermen and issued his commands to the obedient aldermen.

The result was an astounding 13-2 vote due to the 13 Democrats following the marching orders of their head guru-- so as to protect Alderman Catanzaro from a political embarrassment since he is planning to run for Mayor this coming election. Even Alderman Catanzaro voted down his own reprimand—a direct violation of the city charter (punishable by expulsion from the council).

The fascist atmosphere of the Democrats serving on the city’s council has become so brazen that they must vote against their good conscious simply because the party leader dictated that they do so.

No wonder our former Mayor, William McNamara (Big Mac), subsequently resigned his post as the chair of the Ethics commission.

It has become very difficult to find people willing to serve on the many commissions of our city because of this Marxist regime.

It will be difficult to find honest and decent people that would be willing to run for the Democratic council because they would require the endorsement of the DTC and would only receive that nod if they are willing to be loyal puppets for the socialist guru. Change is desperately needed, and that kind of change can only come from the top.

This unethical behavior of elected officials needs to be investigated by State for Federal Officials, especially if we ever want to restore any public confidence in our city government.
