New radio ad from McMahon campaign compares Murphy to famous fictional Hollywood slacker; points out Murphy’s “many, many days off”
NORTH HAVEN, CT – Linda McMahon’s campaign today released a new radio ad highlighting Congressman Chris Murphy’s stunning record of truancy at congressional hearings during the 110th Congress, including the financial crisis of 2008, when he was absent nearly 80% of the time.“Chris Murphy is a modern-day Ferris Bueller, assuming he can just skate by doing the minimum amount of work while expecting the taxpayers to foot his $170,000-a-year salary,” said Corry Bliss, McMahon’s campaign manager. “If there were a Ferris Bueller Award for the biggest slacker in Congress, Chris Murphy would win it hands down.”
In a recent independent analysis conducted by the Hartford Courant, the paper concluded this about the McMahon campaign’s description of Congressman Murphy’s attendance record: “the main factual assertion here is on target. As such, we rate this ad Generally Accurate.”
The McMahon campaign is not the only organization comparing Murphy to Ferris Bueller. Congressman Murphy’s attendance record is so bad that a recent Greenwich Time headlineblared, “Murphy AWOL for three-fourths of hearings” and led the story about Murphy by stating, “Ferris Bueller would be proud.”
“Connecticut voters have nothing to be proud of when it comes to Chris Murphy’s attendance record in Congress,” Bliss said. “Congressman Murphy should grow up and start acting like the public servant he is getting paid by the taxpayers to be, rather than the Ferris Bueller wannabe he has become.”

New Britain’s Second World War Forgotten Hero Dies 8-13-12 At the of Age of 93

Mr. Alex Gotavaskas served his boot camp at Camp Edwards with the 231 first infantry battalion and shortly thereafter was sent into the Normandy Invasion that occurred on June 6, 1944. He personally confided to me that he lost many of his fellow infantry companions that drowned while attempting to reach the beach. Once upon his arrival on the beach he indicated that he went from fox hole to fox hole for a period of nine months, without having a bath, citing that “he was lucky to still be alive.”
To get him to talk more of his service experiences reluctance was all I was able to get. You had to understand his sense of humor and everyone that had the opportunity to know him enjoyed his humor.
He would appear at Berlin’s McDonalds twice daily and would leave his friends without telling them he was leaving with his familiar walking gate that many tagged him as “the glider.” Always his friends would ask did Alex leave? In an attempt to get him upset I would often say I am leaving with my asking Alex to open the door for me. His reply always would be unprintable. The day prior to his death a young boy scout open the door for me and while driving home I was laughing to myself on what I would say to him unfortunately, that never occurred. One could say Alex got the last laugh on me.
A coal minor form Shenandoah Penn. he came to New Britain’s vibrant manufacturing community seeking employment, after his infantry service, and found that work at Stanley Works. After retiring with his completing 25 years of service he was hired by New Britain’s Board of Education where he again retired.
A Friend to all that we now miss.

During the past couple of months, the City of New Britain has been experiencing a rash of larcenies from motor vehicles occurring in the city parking garages located at 40 Chestnut Street and 35 Washington Street. The suspect would enter the vehicles by breaking a window and steal various items from within. Today, the New Britain Police Department served five warrants on Roberto Padilla, D.O.B. 1/20/1964, of no permanent address, for those crimes. Padilla admitted to his involvement in the larcenies and was subsequently charged as follows:
1. Burglary 3rd 53a-107, Larceny 6th 53a-125b, Criminal Mischief 53a-117, and Possession of Burglary tools 53a-106

WHERE WAS PRESIDENT OBAMA BORN??
That Birth Certificate question is coming up again. If what they say here is true, maybe there should be cause for concern. I had some doubts a while back when I saw the “birth certificate” they gave as the president’s but the term African-American set me to question it. Read on.
1.Back in 1961 people of color
were called 'Negroes.' So how can the
Obama 'birth certificate' state he is
'African-American when the term
wasn't even used at that time?
2.The birth certificate that the
White House released lists Obama's birth
as August 4, 1961. It also lists Barack
Hussein Obama as his father.
No big deal, right? At the time of Obama's birth,
it also shows that his
father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama's
father was born in “Kenya, East Africa ". This wouldn't
seem like anything of concern,
except the fact that Kenya did not even
exist until 1963, two whole years
after Obama's birth, and 27 years after his
father's birth. How could
Obama's father have been born in a country that
did not yet exist? Up
and until Kenya was formed in 1963, it was
known as the “British East Africa Protectorate".
3.On the birth certificate
released by the White House, the listed place of
birth is "Kapi'olani Maternity
Gynecological Hospital ". This cannot
be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961
were called "KauiKeolani
Children's Hospital" and "Kapi'olani
Maternity Home", respectively.
The name did not change to
Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital
until 1978, when these two hospitals merged.
How can this particular
name of the hospital be on a birth certificate
dated 1961 if this name had
not yet been applied to it until 1978?
HOW NO ONE GETS
A REASSIGNED SS NUMBER
An intensive investigation has revealed the identity of the man whose
Social Security number (SSN) is being used by President Obama:
Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in France in 1890, immigrated to the
United States in 1924, and was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 (Obama's current SSN) on or about March 1977.
Ludwig lived most of his adult life in Connecticut. Because of
that, his SSN begins with the digits 042, which are among only a select few reserved for Connecticut residents.
Obama never lived or worked in that state! Therefore, there is no
reason on earth for his SSN to start with the digits 042. None
whatsoever!
Now comes the best part! Ludwig spent the final months of his life in
Hawaii, where he died.
Conveniently, Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Payne Dunham, worked part-time in the Probate Office in the Honolulu Hawaii Courthouse, and therefore had access to the SSNs of deceased individuals.
The Social Security Administration was never informed of Ludwig's
death, and because he never received Social Security benefits there
were no benefits to stop and therefore, no questions were ever raised.
The suspicion, of course, is that Dunham, knowing her grandson was not a U.S. Citizen, either because he was born in Kenya or became a
citizen of Indonesia upon his adoption by Lolo Soetoro simply
scoured the probate records until she found someone who died who was not receiving Social Security benefits, and selected Mr. Ludwig’s
Connecticut SSN for Obama.
Although many Americans do not understand the meaning of the term
"natural born" there are few who do not understand that if you are using someone else's SSN it is a clear indication of fraud.
Let's all get this information out to everybody on our mailing lists.
If the voters of this great nation can succeed in bringing this lying,
deceitful, cheating, corrupt, impostor to justice it will be the
biggest and best news in decades for our country and the world.

I Agree with Kelt Cooper's Approach of Teaching The Hispanics English & English To Speaking Children Spanish!
As a child I learned to speak the foreign language that my parents spoke. As I started school I was then introduced to English. While learning this new language my thinking process was with that foreign language. That thinking process method continued until my 10th. grade when I began to use the English to think before speaking or writing.
I agree with Mr. Cooper for his wanting to have the English speaking children to learn Spanish because Spanish will be required in order to obtain leadership type employment later on.
Congratulation to New Britain's Board of Education members for making their wise selection of Mr. Cooper to take over the leadership of our School District.

Republican Town Committe Invites Superintendent of Schools to speak
He took this opportunity to quash the rumors that appeared in our local press citing that he is dismantling the bilingual program citing that his granddaughter is taking Spanish in her school because when she gets older and needing a job with her ability of speaking Spanish will be an asset in her getting the job because Spanish will become a widely spoken language in America.
He added the condition of our schools is the worst and have set three plans:
1 Making the schools safe and clean changing the behavioral patterns of our students.
2. Testing students and not passing those that fail.
3. Venture and evaluate all our needs on what we need to do.
We need to update our inventory of books and find what book we lack to enhance our students education.
The Board members put their necks on the line by hiring me therefore, I must ponder things with common sense he concluded.

We have worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God, and grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.
In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age.

A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.
We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off.
We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. Under a new Federal Law all honorably retired veterans and soldiers in civilian clothes are permitted to salute the flag when the Star Spangled Banner is played.
We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave."
We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, America, and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing.
We have lived what many of you have only read about in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.
Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us.
We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.
It was the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies." You have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don't like it after all.
You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting.
Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Cool-Aid.' Now you're paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom. This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.
Well, don't worry youngsters, the Gray Haired Brigade is here, and in 2012 we are going to take back our nation.
We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we're going, and in 2012 we're going to the polls by the millions. This land does not belong to the man in the White House or to the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It belongs to "We the People" and "We the People" plan to reclaim our land and our freedom.
We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren. So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired Brigade."

Stanley Park, Costco switched to its “Plan B,” which did not call for taking 15 acres of land from the park. It would be left untouched while three golf holes would go onto land in Newington adjacent to Route 9.

Recently released test scores for the New Britain School District have shown that our school is still well behind State averages and no where near the goals set by the Federal No Child Left Behind Act. These numbers are even more dismal when we look at how underserved our Hispanic population is by our schools. With dropout rates that are one of the highest in the State, it is no wonder we have been the target of much criticism.
Our new superintendent, Kelt Cooper, has stated that raising these scores is job number one and I certainly hope he can succeed where his predecessor failed. He certainly has a record of success that bodes well for our school systems future.
Furthermore, Superintendent Cooper doesn’t seem to be of the mindset that the key to greater student achievement is to simply request more money year after year. This should help put the taxpaying property owners of New Britain at ease. Cooper’s history of fiscal prudence is a breath of fresh air after years of Dr. Kurtz’s budgets with requests for multi-million dollar increases which were rubber stamped many years by the Board of Education.
However, property owners should be concerned with more than just the price tag attached to education. The long term viability of a community can be closely tied to the quality of the education system. When middle class property owners are looking to put down roots one of the many things they look at is the public school system. By having a high quality school system we are not only making a better future for the next generation, we are also helping to build the middle class and keep our tax burden lower.
Already Superintendent Cooper has signaled that he wants to make some dramatic and much needed changes. One of these changes includes ending the practice of Kaizen Thursdays, regaining much needed hours to the school day. Another such change is his stated desire to return to the model of solid local neighborhood schools, rather than a patchwork of programs and special schools that can only cater to a few select students. These changes show a return to a common sense approach to education.
In the coming months Superintendent Cooper may need to make further difficult decisions regarding the future of our school system. These changes are necessary for our schools to recover and to thrive once again. All property owners should help support him and his plan to revitalize our school system before another 10 years is lost on ineffective programs.

MARK BERNACKI ATTACKS ELVIS'S CITY HALL BUDGET SCHEME!
As a long time alderman I have reviewed and made proposals for over a dozen budgets. New Britain has lost a significant amount of industrial properties and heavily relies on our homeowners for property taxes. Due to significant state mandates the City also relies on state aid for education cost sharing, PILOT dollars, casino revenues, and numerous one time revenues, particularly the sale of city property and fees.
According to the mayor’s chief of staff / communications director / building department director I must believe Elvis is still alive. It is utterly amazing that New Britain’s Mayor and City Council recently spent $25,000 to hire a politically connected accounting firm to supposedly “forensic” audit New Britain’s books. We elect a mayor, treasurer and city council to oversee our finances. This is why we also have a full time finance department. Real forensic audits cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. This was nothing more than a $25,000 political audit.
I guess the adage “a lie told long enough becomes the truth” is correct. Even the Herald uses the administration’s ramblings as a basis of fact. This administration just does not understand fiscal budgeting and has been reckless in their proclamations.
The recently passed city budget increased government spending from $217 million dollars to $232 million dollars with no tax increase. If their claim of New Britain being in “deficit” of $30 million were true why did the mayor and democrat controlled council increase spending by $15 million? If their claim of a $30 million deficit were correct shouldn’t the budget have decreased from $217 million to $187 million? Or, at worse, increase property taxes by $30 million to cover their supposed “deficit”?
The mayor and super majority council democrats reversed the 8 year budgetary strategy of stabilizing City finances by hiring a full time communications director (first at $45,000 then increased to $65,000), increased the Mayor's office budget by 50%, proposed adding 37 police officers, hired the wife of a city council member to be a community organizer ($47,000), zeroed out the line item that forced the Mayor (Stewart and now O'Brien) to obtain contract concessions with the City unions, got unfavorable bonding rates for long term debt and increased spending by $15 million.
The problem is this administration doesn’t understand the difference between a budget deficit and long term debt obligations. By state law, the council and mayor must pass a balanced budget. If their claim is the budget is out of balance by $30 million and they increased last year’s city budget by $15 million shouldn’t the council and mayor be headed to jail for purposely passing an unbalanced budget? If they increased spending by $15 million without any tax increase isn’t the new “deficit” now $45 million?
When we purchase our home and get a mortgage (long term debt) we don’t call this a deficit because it isn’t. We make monthly principal and interest payments to reduce our debt. The same thing happens with New Britain’s budget. Under this administration’s logic if you made $40,000 in take home pay and had a mortgage of $150,000 you have a deficit of $110,000.
Each year, the budget process goes from department heads to the Finance Board, to the Mayor and finally to the Council. Rarely do major expenditures such as health insurance premiums remain uncut. During the Stewart administration, the budget line item for health insurance was cut not arbitrarily, but by working with a benefits consultant to find ways to save money. The money that was cut is not a deficit, as this political audit would have you believe, but a SAVINGS! I would also note that democrats on the council never added money back into that line item, so this alleged "under funding" is on their heads as the final word in the budget. They were more than happy to reap the benefits of Mayor Stewart's number crunching. Unfortunately, people that never worked a day in the private sector and have absolutely no business experience are now in charge of New Britain’s finances.

After watching the Mayors' promise of a hiring freeze being ignored. The raiding of the Water Department funds of $10,000 plus forcing the city taxpayers with an annual payment of $800,000 annually. With Sherwood neglected to admit this fact as being a part of cause of this negative report.
Whenever there is an effort to limit the unions control over wages of the city employees we heard from the then state representative O'Brien, Tercyak, and Donald DeFronzo with Phil Sherwood placing his objections also.
All the blame against that past administration is false with in fact all the budgets that O'Brien/Sherwood are alluding too were approved by Democratic control common council. Additionally, Sherwood did serve and voted with his approval of common council budgets while serving as an Alderman.
We also recall this audit was requested by the city workers' unions.
With Sherwood addressing the so called shortfall by not filling vacant positions and cutting on some supplies.
Maybe the administration should eliminate the Recent appointment of Mrs. Brown saving the taxpayers $47K as a start towards fulfilling the Mayor's promise freeze on hiring's which would also be the commencement towards cutting city expenses.
