AN ADVERSE LOPES ISSUE POSTED 10-19-11 WITH MUST READ COMMENTS

Periodically, on my blog, I post editorials on various subjects that I deem are pertinent to NB city politics, etc.

At last night’s NB Candidates Forum, while listening to the debate between Mayoral candidates, a former NB alderman, the infamous Rick Lopes, questioned me. Lopes attempted to pick an argument with me regarding an editorial I posted on MY blog on 10/5/11. The editorial referenced is reprinted below:

“PZH meeting, adverse effects take place
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Tonight’s meeting of the Common Council subcommittee on Planning, Zoning and Housing (PZH) showed the true colors of Council Democrats. Two items on the agenda were particularly interesting, a resolution to sell a parcel of land on Broad St. and the Costco proposal. The first issue, the sale of a lot on Broad St. to Mr. Witold Pokorski was tabled at the request of Alderman DeFronzo. The person who benefited from this tabling was none other than former Alderman Rick Lopes. People will recall that Lopes was the Alderman who registered his vehicles out of town to avoid NB taxes. Later he would become the legislative aide to former State Senator, Don DeFronzo. Lopes would then become notable for being sanctioned for rifling through the desks of other aides at the legislature. In all of this, DeFronzo protected him. While Don has moved on, Lopes remains at the LOB.
The property in question was an empty lot at 179 Broad Street. Lopes owns #183 Broad Street and has been squatting on the lot in question. Mr. Pokorski owns # 173 Broad St. and proposed to purchase # 179 to use for parking for his tenants. Alderman DeFronzo (son of Don) moved to table the proposal. The vote was tied, 4 to 4. Chair Centeno voted to table, essentially killing the purchase. Thus the Dems took care of Lopes. “
Later, DeFronzo and Trueworthy would vote against moving the Costco issue forward. Fortunately, Costco prevailed. But, DeFronzo and Trueworthy who were willing to put the general welfare of over 70K people aside for the benefit of a few anti Costco folks did take care of their notorious friend, Rick Lopes.”

Lopes was upset for a couple of reasons, ostensibly because I brought up in the editorial, his questionable past but also because to me, this was just another example of Council Democrats in particular and Democrats in general “taking care” of one of their own. Every time Lopes has been involved in an untoward situation, he has been protected and the incident has been whitewashed.
This time, Council Democrats successfully tabled the action to sell the property an action that resulted in loss of revenue for New Britain. Lopes insisted it would have been a good purchase for him too yet he never was interested enough to offer to purchase the lot.
Leopards don’t change their spots. Such is the case with NB Liberaal Democrats.

Sincerely,

Frank smith, A Conservative Democrat

NEW BRITAIN'S MAYOR, TIM O'BRIEN, ALLOWED HIS SWEARING IN TO OCCUR WITH THREE FELLOW CANDIDATES WITH UN-PAID TAXES OWED TO CITY.

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Sadly, The mayor allowed three of his fellow candidates to become part of his administration, while owing the city taxes.

The now new Alderman RHA Sheen Brown [ D ] owing the largest amount a sum of $5,391.56 together with his wife Briggette at the 18 union Street address in the city and an additional sum of $1,262.37 at their 6 Cidermill Ct. address.

Constable James Rathbun [ D ] a sum of $247.30

Constable Peter Spano [ D ] a sum of $777.33

Checking with the tax collector's office at 9:15 A. M. today verified that the aforementioned balances are still outstanding.

These figures were reported ,as being owed to the city, on November 17th. on this blog.

Now in tonight's on line edition of the Hartford Courant it is reporting statements made by the mayor attempting to blame his predecessor, similar to President Obama's blaming Bush, for all the city's ills.

With all prior budgets being approved by a Democratic majority council.

THIS BLOG RECEIVED A COMPLAINT.

"My post are being censored."

Yes. Mr. Sherwood, it's like playing a game of tag with your nonsense postings, that are very un-dignified for the position you hold within the new "Administration".

So they are deleted "sir".

Governor Malloy's Errors with his executive orders numbers 9 & 10.

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

These orders attempted to order the child care industry to become unionized however, a letter issued by the attorney representing "WE THE PROPLE OF CONNECTICUT, INC. pointed to his errors.
Therefore, Malloy looked to the legislature to make his mandate a law and Senate Bill number 1106 did just that.

It authorized the commissioner of the Social Services demand that all child care providers to join the union or lose their state financial support effective 10-1-11.

This is the first industry that the Malloy Industry has implemented such an edict.

How many more industries does Malloy intend to attack for the union buddies?

No wonder Pratt has been moving their facilities out of state.

Texas and other states have been enticing our industries to move to their locations.

Malloy's attempt to Socialize our state and the way it does bussiness,is certainly failing.

FORMER GOVERNOR ROWLAND'S RADIO PROGRAM HAS A FAMILIAR GUEST

During yesterday's program Rowland was joined by former Senator Thomas Bozek who claimed that the busway was designed to include low rent housing at all the bus stations wherever they are located in towns such as West Hartford, Newington, and including the Elmwood section of West Hartford.

Upon hearing this Rowland seemed astonished of this new revelation.

Could have the Malloy Administration placed this new revelation into its legislation?

MAYOR O'BRIEN APPOINTS FORMER MAJORITY LEADER AS HIS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR!

The Mayor has selected the Democrat's trouble maker Phil Sherwood commonly known for his well publicized comments such as "where is the beef."

In addition to grant writing he will also advise the Mayor with policy problems.

This appointment surfaced subsequently to the Mayor's Edict calling for a "hiring freeze."

Here goes the implied budget freeze too.

With Sherwood attempting to fill Joe Shilinga's shoes he will soon find out that his feet are too small.

fs

Hey:Phil Whoever You Are

A person representing himself to be Phil wrote in the new Britain Herald: "dear Union Hater aka New Britain Democrat. The EOC is not manned by union members but by department heads. If they live in the city like they should per charter it would not be a big deal to get the EOC to open it up."
Whoever you are " Phil" you comments are totally wrong when you say the Department Heads must live in New Britain and I ask where in the charter does this mandate exist?

Recall that Joseph Carilli the former NBPW Director, fought this and won his case allowing many city directors to live out of the city.

So Phil get you facts before you shoot your mouth off.

THE DAY THE NEW MAYOR WAS GIVEN HIS OATH.

The Democrats played their usual hate towards the Republicans, with little notice from the audience, which occurred at the very end of the gala affair.
The tradition of the torch being past on to the new mayor by the old was not allowed by the state senator Gerratana, who chaired the event, with her leaving the now former mayor Timothy Stewart standing at the stage apron without her acknowledging his waiting only to leave with a sense of frustration.

The Democrats acting at their best, for the public, no less.

Our Newly elected officials are off to a good start.

NEW BRITAIN HIGH SCHOOL LOCATION CHOSEN FOR OATH OF ALL THE CITY'S OFFICIALS.

Oath being given to the New Mayor Tim O'Brien by The Town Clerk.

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
With the Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman representing the Gov. Malloy, who is out of state on business, wished well for the New Mayor Tim O'Brien and the city of New Britain.

Our state representative touting Tim's time spent on the city council for his proposing the blight ordinance, and fair election campaign reforms.

The New Mayor chose the New Britain High School setting for his inaugural because he is in full support of funding education at all cost when he referred to "Quality Schools " as being his main goal and keeping taxes stable.

One couldn't walk away without asking himself/ herself how can this be done and keeping the taxes stable? Could the additional school support be placed onto the state's income taxpayers to help out New Britain's funding for education that Mayor O'Brien wishes bring to New Britain? Or will it be funded by raising the local taxes?
Time will only surface the answers to the aforementioned questions.

We all wish our new mayor the best.

FORMER CITY ALDERMAN SPEAKS HIS MIND

The prevailing practice among Democrats that win elections, especially those Democrats that have little of substance to offer to people who elect them, apparently, is to play the “BLAME” game. President Obama has used the past three years to blame everything wrong on Bush; Malloy’s administration blames the do-nothing Rell (true enough) though she did nothing with a Democratic legislature with a super majority; and in New Britain, where we have Democrats that have yet to be sworn in, starting to blame Mayor Stewart. The best example is in another local paper today where the newly elected (1st time) Alderman Dave DeFronzo blaming the freak snow storm and the havoc it wreaked, on Mayor Stewart. This is the same Dave DeFronzo that opposes and opposed, the Aquinas proposal, Costco and the CREC Health Careers Magnet School.

One would think that Mayor Stewart had intoned the “Weather Deities”, Meteora, Boreus and Thor to bring this catastrophe on New Britain. I suggest to Mr. DeFronzo that before trying to fix blame on Mayor Stewart, that he take a good look at the front page of the section of that competing paper and read the expose of NU, CLP and the Lobbyists that have worked hand in glove with members of both major parties to give this Major Utility all the favorable legislation it needs to be a slacker when it comes to responding to catastrophes. Among the lobbyists that received handsome compensation was newly appointed (by O’Brien) Corporation Counsel, John King.

Mr. DeFronzo lives in the same neighborhood as my son. If he fared as well as my son, he was without power for 8 days. Other folks I know did not have power restored until 10 or 11 days had elapsed. Some of the hardest hit towns were the “wealthy” suburbs. Perhaps they could blame Mayor Stewart for getting power restored to NB residents!

Mr. DeFronzo, stop the childish antics and the BLAME game. Do your homework and look to make things better for NB. Pointing fingers should be done in front of a mirror. As Obama once said to John McCain after a testy confrontation with the Senator, “the election is over senator.” DAVE, the election is over, time for you to put blame in the trash basket and start acting responsibly.

PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your
Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across
to put your car keys beside your bed at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get into
your home, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be
set off, and it will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the
car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you
come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think
of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have
and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most
everywhere inside your house and will keep making the alarm noise
until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on
the key fob chain.
It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm
goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are
the burglar won't stick around.
After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their
windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't
want that.
And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a
parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is
something that should really be shared with everyone.

Bernacki Challenges O’Brien’s Effectiveness

None of O’Brien’s 252 Proposed Bills Ever Passed by Lawmakers

New Britain – Republican Mayoral candidate Mark Bernacki says his opponent State Rep. Tim O’Brien is misleading residents by grossly exaggerating his record of accomplishments in recent mailings and statements.

"My opponent has proposed 252 bills during his career as a legislator, and none of those proposals have passed,” said Bernacki. "Amazingly, my opponent calls himself a successful fighter at the State Capitol on behalf of residents, a recent third-party mailing described him as an 'experienced leader' who can get things done. The facts tell a completely different story. Anyone who looks at my opponent's nine years as a state legislator will find a record of failure, not success.”

Bernacki added that even with a Democratic supermajority, none of O’Brien’s proposals have even made it out of committee to be called for a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives.

“Simply stated, my opponent's point of view is too radical. His ideas are too expensive to be supported by other members of his own party and they are too expensive for New Britain taxpayers. He just doesn’t get it.”

Conversely, Bernacki noted that during his own 18 years of service on the New Britain City Council over 90 percent of his proposed council resolutions have passed.

Bernacki pointed to O'Brien's most recent campaign mailing which claims that O'Brien has the “best record of holding down property taxes."

”First, my opponent seems to have already forgotten that just a few short months ago, he voted in favor of reducing the $500 property tax credit for working families to $300,” Bernacki said. "That's $200 out of our pockets. Second, the State of Connecticut does not directly regulate our property taxes. This is just another example of how out of touch my opponent is with New Britain's needs. We need relief, not more taxes and spending.”

During O’Brien’s tenure at the state capitol, New Britain has received less state aid as compared to other major municipalities in our state. “Although my opponent cannot affect local property tax rates as a state legislator, he voted for the largest tax increase in state history as proposed by Governor Malloy. Your DMV fees now cost more, gas prices have gone up, your cigarettes and alcohol are more expensive, even your children’s clothing now costs you more because of his careless vote.”

”If residents want someone who can actually hold the line on taxes, foster economic development and improve the quality of life in New Britain – not just talk about it, then they should take a look at my record,” said Bernacki. “I don’t have to fluff up my resume or take credit for legislation written by others. I stand on my accomplishments.”

BIG BERTA LEWIS HAS COME TO NEW BRITAIN TO ENDORSE HER SELECTED CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR, Tax Collector, AND Her Choice COUNCIL'S Candidates

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Bertha Lewis iS the President of the Working Families Party and the infamous Acorn Organization.

She proudly announced that she is a socialist--the coded word for "communist" while speaking to New York School children and now she has endorsed seven of the New Britain candidates:

For Mayor, Tim O'Brien
For Tax Collector, Todd M. Szabo
For Alderman at Large; Suzanne Bielinski
" " " David DeFronzo
" " " Michael Trueworthy
For Alderman At Large Rha-Sheen D. Brown
For Alderman for Ward 4 Tobias Freeman
When endorsing Hillary she announced the following:

Speaking days before Hillary won her Senate seat in 2000, Lewis noted, “Hillary knows that if she wins, we’re going to be knocking’ on her door. She won’t be able to hide.”

Voters Of New Britain please take the warning that since it came directly out of Big Bertha's mouth to Hillary Clinton----

That Very same threat applies the aforementioned New Britain Candidates that she will be coming to knock on all the City Hall Doors: The Mayor's and the Alderman's if elected to whom she proudly gave her socialist accreditation "too."

" If they win, they will not be able to hide, from Big Bertha."

They will be voting what she dictates them to do and not for the needs of the Electorate.

"PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THEM."

CPOA Member Speaks Out

Is it me, or are there just more and more people and organizations with their hands out. Entitlement is their mantra. They feel they deserve something.

The “Occupy” movement is quite an interesting example of this. I saw one interview with a young person complaining about his inability to get a job - after all he had a degree in film study! He felt entitled to a job!

Then there are the corporations being lured to Connecticut by our Governor. Why? The giveaway of taxpayer money. I don’t know enough about the Jackson Lab deal; but at face value it does seem pretty one-sided to me. If it was such a great deal, why did Florida debate it so long and walk away from it?

Then there is the buying of votes. Is it a coincidence that just prior to the election that Rosa DeLauro is advocating for taxpayer subsidized diapers! Diapers will now become an entitlement in the US.

Enough is enough. We can’t sustain all the giveaways.

How about an entitlement for me the taxpayer? I earned my money and I am entitled to keep it. I’m entitled to pass on my earnings to my spouse and children and to donate to worthy causes I support. I’m entitled to send my child to college for a film study degree if I want to; knowing the repercussions of doing so but not demanding charity when the degree does not tie to a profession that compensates for the initial expenditure.

We at the municipal tax level are the lowest rung on the ladder. It all flows as they say; downhill. We get saddled with higher taxes all the way down; and when it comes to the delivery of services in our city we get less and less; while paying more and more.

New Britain can’t afford higher taxes and the politicians who give away our hard earned money. There is only one choice for Mayor this year and that is Mr. Mark Bernacki. Mr. Bernacki needs a strong Republican Common Council with help from free thinking Democrats like Mr. Carlozzi and Mr. Sanchez. Mr. O”Brien will just continue to play Robin Hood and protest against new business for not giving enough away.

We citizens are all compassionate and will help those in need but can’t be foolish and flush away our basic way of American life: working for a living; taking intelligent risk and gathering the rewards when successful, and being creative to accomplish set goals. When you do these things, you should be able to live your life; not support someone else’s.

MAYOR STEWART REPORTS ON POWER RESTORATION EFFORTS IN NEW BRITAIN AFTER STORM ALFRED AND GIVES DETAILS ON DEBRIS PICK UP PROCEDURES

Mayor Timothy T. Stewart today thanked New Britain residents for their continued patience in light of the power outages and other damage from Winter Storm Alfred.

“Although there are still several streets and parts of neighborhoods without power, as of earlier today (Friday, November 4, 2011) we were over 80% in the City that have electricity and all streets are accessible to emergency vehicles. This is great news given the extent of power lines and trees down throughout the City and we are in a much better position than many towns in the Central Connecticut region, ” said Mayor Stewart. “I also want to thank City employees for all their hard work in these adverse conditions.”

“Given that the majority of residents should have their power restored over the weekend, the Senior Center at 55 Pearl Street which has been open as a shelter will close tomorrow (Saturday, November 5, 2011) at 4:00 pm. The Center will remain open tonight and staff will work with those still without power to make alternative arrangements,” Stewart continued. “I would like to thank the Senior Center and Health Department staff, the police and firefighters who assisted at the Shelter, CERT volunteers, Whitson’s Food Service, the Visiting Nurse Association and all those who donated food and supplies to keep the shelter operational.”

Mayor also updated the procedures for debris pick up. “Debris can be left at the following locations between 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (no commercial users please) including this Saturday and Sunday (November 5th and 6th):

Martha Hart Parking Lot (Corbin Avenue entrance)
AW Stanley Parking Lot (off of Stanley Street by pool)
Osgood Parking Lot (Osgood Avenue)
Chesley Parking Lot (Wildwood Street behind two pools)

In addition, debris can be stacked and left on the curb for pick up. Please do not leave debris on sidewalks or in the streets, especially as schools will be open on Monday. Debris must be out no later than Sunday, November 13, 2011 for pick up. Please do not contact Public Works regarding individual pick up. It will take several weeks to complete the pick up, so we continue to ask for patience as we continue the cleanup.”

Minority Leader Salvio Spells it Out About "TiM O'Brien"

Perhaps CLP will have our schools etc., up and running with power by Tues. so the municipal election can go on as scheduled.

More often than one might hope, campaigns can get nasty bringing innocent family members of candidates into positions where they are “made” to support positions of opposition candidates. These family members may have their livelihoods threatened if they don’t support candidates that are on opposite slates as their family member. Such is the case with a family member of mine. Know this at the outset, I have never been sent – except for once, recently - any of Tim O’Brien’s campaign flyers. Yet, a member of my family was showcased on an O’Brien flyer, ostensibly supporting his positions that I oppose. This shows what a snake is this man and his campaign managers.

Most folks who read my letters to the editor or my “signed” comments on the blogs, know that I have been very critical, pointed and factual against Democrat candidate for Mayor, Tim O’Brien. The man is an inveterate prevaricator.

He claims to bring $millions to NB for education, property tax relief for seniors, blight relief, etc. Truth? He has not had one bill passed in ten years in the state legislature. The only education or other funds that come from the state for education, etc., are those that every city and town get. Tim O’Brien single handedly squashed a $15 million dollar sale of excess, unusable NB Water Dept. land to the Tilcon Co. In addition, O’Brien and his Council cronies, Trueworthy, DeFronzo, Hermanowski and Magnuszewski were/are all against the Costco, Aquinas and other proposals. Also, he did not object last year when other towns, less needy than NB received more in education funding. He thought it was fair because, “maybe the other towns needed funds more than NB!!! No lie!

Yet, O’Brien’s camp and campaign manager (a carpet bagger like O’Brien) don’t come after me, they go after an innocent family member of mine. O’Brien is a charlatan, a faker who has never held a real job, has little to show in the way of an educational resume, knows nothing about running a business and has never accomplished anything in the legislature other than getting elected. He has supported Malloy’s highest tax increase in the state’s history. Further he knows nothing about New Britain.

Tim O’Brien: if you want to criticize or take shots at me, do it, but leave my family out of it. Tim’ you are lower than whale excrement that is at the ocean bottom.

Vote for “Team Bernacki.”
