"LANDLORDS OF NEW BRITAIN BEWARE"
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Fair Rent Commission as Proposed by Alderman Emmanuel Shanchez:
Alderman Carlos Carlozzi expressed his concern with this resolution that if a tenant damages the apartment walls or railings etc. when he was interrupted by Alderman Michael Trueworthy stating that isn't the original intent of this resolution without his explaining the intent to him.
The intent is as follows: " In the commission's consideration of fair rents , no fines, penalties or city fees for violations of city ordinances or state or federal laws may be included in fair rent amounts or the cost of complying with anti blight or code enforcement from the city".
The common Council sent this proposal to the planning and zoning sub-committee of the council.
Needless to say "LANDLORDS OF NEW BRITAIN BEWARE." "THE TENANT WINS YOU LOSE".

Former Alderman Calls O'Brien's Administration Organized "UNCERTAINTY "
What one word or term would you use if you were trying to gauge how the American people feel about the way our governments - Federal, State and Local - are affecting their lives now, and moreover about what the future may bring? It’s a daunting task while trying to be kind. About the best I could come up without using profanity is, “Uncertainty.”
News programs, radio talk shows, television analytical news programs, newspaper columnists‘ articles, etc., range from slanderous and profanity laced partisan programs, a la some Late Night TV Shows to thoughtful one hour programs that examine issues of concern to the general public.
This effort will concentrate on the state of local feelings of angst and general concerns of the taxpayers of the City of New Britain.
For the past eight months, New Britain has been in total turmoil since the election of Mayor O’Brien. Announcements are made and changed almost weekly how: (a) a hiring freeze will take place, (b) an alleged, ever-changing budget deficit will be reconciled, (c) how and when a departmental reorganization will take place, (d) number of layoffs, (e) what jobs will be done by which department, etc., etc.
One of the most ridiculous ideas put forth so far by the O’Brien Administration is that $3.95 Million in revenue can be realized by assessing absentee landlords an additional fee for trash pickup. To me, this is simply an added tax! Assuming that absentee landlords pay their property taxes, I believe that this idea could be challenged successfully in a court of law as illegal. Why is or would this be different from charging a special fee for each child parents send to city schools? Folks that send their kids to private or parochial schools end up paying an additional “tax” for education. Many homeowners pay taxes covering education yet have no children.
A little research shows that there are 10,463 non-owner occupied units of housing (1 family to 6 family) in New Britain. To get $3.95 Million dollars each one would have to be assessed an additional $378.
Everything I’ve written here begs more questions so, what does O’Brien say about all the questions that people have? “It’s too soon to tell how everything will play out.” In a word? “UNCERTAINTY?” How do you feel?

illegals Aliens
The NBC affiliate WTHR in Indianapolis, recently reported how millions of illegal aliens are getting billions of dollars in U.S. tax refunds without having paid a dime in income taxes. The story instantly went viral because it's true. You won't believe what illegals are getting away with, and how our federal government is enabling them.
Here's how they work the system....
Since Illegal immigrants cannot qualify for legitimate Social Security numbers, which would entitle them to work legally in the U.S. and file income tax returns.
So, the Internal Revenue Service allows them to apply for nine-digit individual taxpayer identification numbers, or ITINs, which then are use to file federal income tax returns.
In addition, a provision in the tax code permits illegals to claim "additionchild tax credits," which grant families $1,000 per "dependent" child.
Roughly three-quarters of tax returns filed by illegals include these ACTCs. And with the ITIN, illegals are able to get tax credits and refunds for nephews, nieces and other family members who never have touched U.S. soil.
A tax consultant snitched to WTHR News in Indianapolis that an illegal got a $10,300 refund for nine nieces and nephews.
According to FactCheck.org, Democrats in Congress are resisting a bill that would stop this pilfering of the U.S. Treasury by illegal immigrants/illegal aliens!

Yesterday's Headline in the Hartford Courant was: "New Britain Mayor asks residents to keep a watch on elderly Neighbors."
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
But was he watching out for those elderly neighbors that attended New Britain High School Graduation of their children and grandchildren?
With all the weather forecasts advising us of the tremendous heat wave coming to this area why didn't our chief executive request that this event be moved to an air conditioned facilities by his issuing an executive order mandating his order.
Sadly, 24 four were sent to four area hospitals for heat exhaustion.
If he had any real concerns for the elderly, as the headline suggest, he would have issued the executive order to change the location.

A recent Hartford Courant article declares nine School districts have requested to start turnaround plans early which included the New Britain's Board of Education.
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
The New Britain School Board membership, apparently based on the Courant article, decided to contact for information regarding this turnaround plan being offered by the state according to the Education Commissioner of the state of Connecticut, Stefan Pryor.
Astonished turn of events by the actions of the board membership this report illuminates when Dr. Cooper has publicly stated "He is concerned with the threat of the school intervention by the state citing he believes the school system should remain autonomous.
Since it has been reported that Dr. Cooper's arrival in town will occur next week why couldn't the board membership await for his input before having New Britain's name associated in the Headlines "Nine School Districts as to start turnaround plans early?"
Was this action in compliance to our state representative Bobby Sanchez requesting Governor Malloy to intervene?

The Wild West is Here In New Britain!
Much to his credit Republican Alderman Willie Pabon proposed a change to a current city ordinance to having gun owners to conceal their weapons rather than the current city ordinance that mandates gun owners with gun permits to have their weapons exposed when in public.
This issue was sent to a sub-committee and the full council will vote on this proposal at a subsequent council meeting.

State Auditor & Wife Apparently Exceed Limits In Donations To Speaker Donovan!
Our State Auditor
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
State Auditor John C. Gerragosian and wife Audrey each made donations exceeding $2500 each.
The Hartford Courant reported with their list of campaign donators that John donated a total of $4,500 with four separate donations and his wife Audrey donated a total of $2,900 with four separate donations also.
Since federal campaign finance law limits the total amount that any one individual may contribute at $2,500, and this is at the route of the case against the others involved in this federal investigation, one question remains: If the Hartford Courant’s report is accurate, when is the federal investigation going to focus on these two individuals?
Many of the newspaper stories have neglected to include state officials for thanking their Speaker with their family donations.
Below is the rest of the list of New Britain donors as reported by the Hartford Courant: Alderman Michael Trueworthy, Representative Peter Tercyak, David Pudlin, Brendan Kennedy, Raquel Kennedy, State Senator Theresa Gerratana, Gregory Gerratana, Harold Gerragosian, and Harriet Gerragosian.

The Meeting was held last Thursday with many proposals suggested by the NRZ membership.
Many of the suggestion made by the membership for the property ranged from a park, senior day care center, trying to get a private developer interested in making a business type building with the property, a youth center, senior housing, one member stated no to a homeless shelter, and another stated this is not a neighborhood for children because of the heavy density of the area.
Mayor O'Brien recommended that a small committee be selected with 5-6 members that more would be unwieldy. He continued by saying that he would very happy to sit down with the committee to evaluate what the full memberships wishes are and city hall will do anything to help. I want this issue resolved as soon as possible.
I trust that the naysayers will not prevail!

The Sherwood Drama Continues
Mr. Sherwood according to sources at city hall has recently been "promoted" DMD when he received an annual raise of $74,000 from $60,000 and now the mayor has put him in charge of the city's building department with a new raise increase his annual salary to" $82,000 annually".
How can this be accomplished? Has Mr. Sherwood obtain the proper certification in order to be able to sign off on matters before this department as required by state statue and the city charter?
Or is ignoring the requirements the standard procedure at city hall.
The question that remains is the fact that Rosemary Klotz is now the DMD. Is she entitle to an increase like Sherwood got and why not?
This must have many of the city employees very upset with the Mayor attempting to get them to agree to work for a reduced salary or give up their annual wage increase that there are entitle to get; with the threat of layoffs over their heads.
But cronies like Mr. Sherwood keeps on receiving increases.

Democrats Bring Back Saint Thomas Aquinas to Life!
Mayor O'Brien is calling for a meeting with the neighborhood residents to discuss what to do with Saint Thomas Thursday June 7 At 6 PM at the Stanley Memorial Church.
After the Democrats turned down a purchase agreement by Community Builders for a sum of $4,000,000 with their agreeing to and additional sum of $1,000,000 for remedial cleanup work The Council membership lead by the Democrats voted this offer down.
Alderman David DeFronzo sided with the neighborhood naysayers being against this proposal of tearing down the school and refurbishing the nuns residence into l8 single units and l8 two family units. Claiming it would downgrade "our community."
After being told that there were 16 request from builders for the packet information but the city received only one bid. The President Pro Tempore of the common council, Alderman Michael Trueworthy, stated that receiving only one RFP wasn't sufficient and in spite of Alderman Salvio's plea to accept the deal since heavy cost to maintain the property will continue but, Alderman Trueworthy continued with his usual dialog "this might not be the best proposal" " I spoke to a whole bunch of people and I would like to see a new RFP on the Street." "That neighborhood needs a change a community center something has to happen."
With a roll call vote the Democratic control council voted this issue down causing rumors to start from the Trueworthy statement "neighborhood needs a community center." Comments from everywhere surfaced indicating the Democratic plan is to turn over this site to The Friendship Center of Arch Street. Are we still looking for RFP's, Alderman?

Democrats Plan for New Additional Fees
Amazing how the New Britain Democratic Controlled Council membership continues with their blame game of the past administration. Their budget is based on adding fees for excessive calls to the fire and police departments, fees for trash collections at rental properties of single family homes and apartment complexes.
When the Democrats were asked by the Republicans for the itemized list of new revenues being suggested by the O'Brien administration their response was that they have not worked out the actual rates for the charges yet.
But, the Democrats pushed their $232.3 million budget without knowing how much their added forced fees will be.
This budget is clearly based on assumptions and avoiding reality.
Clearly, the Mayor has not learned the hard lesson that when you assume you make an ass out of you and me.
